1/72 Sopwith Pups

      Just finished an Airfix Sopwith Pup piloted by Cpt ASG Lee #46 squadron and HR model piloted by Flt. Cdr J A Glen #3 Naval squadron

   The Airfix kit was straight out of the box with some minor adjustments. Decals were from Pheon.

  I mistakenly  used a Beardmore built fuselage for the HR  model but didn't discover this until it was too  late.  Live and learn!

 The HR model is a bit more difficult but overall is a better model.  The Airfix kit would benefit from a retool especially the wings.

  Rigging was .004 stainless steel.  Pheon decals were used for the HR kit also.

Both lovely models RVW  8)

I was given a bag of Airfix Pups in bits, but they'd take quite a bit of work to turn them out as nicely as yours - well done. The HR model is one I've seen only for sale occasionally on FleaBay and never seen one built up before; looks like a nice kit.

Must admit I've held off tackling a Pup because Richard (Aviattic) has one in the final stages of preparation which should be a step up . . .  (Of course I'll probably build one of the Airfix ones just before that appears) ::)

You've done a fabulous job on both of those kits. The venerable Airfix kit holds up pretty well in your hands. Lovely finish on both and the Pheon decals help make for some colourful schemes. Well done!

Both Pups are beautiful, well done RVW!
I've built an Airfix Pup ages ago. When the HR kits arrived they looked better and more accurate and I now have almost all of them.
Looking forward to the Aviattic Pup  :)

I was totally unaware of the HR kit until your post so it's neat to see it compared with the Airfix kit. I remain confused and surprised that during the whole of the Great War centenary Airfix only released two new models from the era! I'd have thought a new Pup was a dead certainty...hopefully in the coming years!

You?ve done a great job with the tricky double wires, especially in this scale.  Interesting colour schemes as well.  You?ve inspired me to try to find one to build myself!

Fantastic stuff...as the Pup is a tiny plane, you have managed to get the scale thicknesses and the overall feeling completely convincing. And special marks for the A.L. Gould plane...wrote perhaps the best pilot memories of WW1 ever.
