WnW Gotha G.I - Option B

Started my WnW Gotha G.1 ? an amazing piece of history.  I?m doing option B (11/15).  No small amount of trepidation given the build logs I?ve read but still looking forward to it.

Starting with the cockpit, most of the woodwork and pieces all done.  First bit of internal rigging completed as well.

This bit where you apply Kristal Klear to give a lens effect always worries me but I?ve never had an issue and the result is first class.

Sitting inside the fuselage half and finally closed up. 

Everyone is right.  It?s an incredibly tight fit.  There are some gaps but nothing that can?t be corrected.  I don?t want to jinx myself but it did come together a little easier than I was expecting.

That's looking really good so far, lovely woodgrain, excellent details and very effective chipped paint. This is one of my favourite aircfat of WWI and I have often been tempted by this kit but the size always puts me off. Maybe your build will change my mind....... ;)

Thank you both of you.  I love the history behind these models.  In the case of the G.I, technology and strategy outstripped it between its inception and delivery but none the less, it shows how the strategy of aircraft evolved.  A bit like the Bristol Scout with its machine gun mounted on the side of the fuselage firing at an angle.  It is a big model and I live in a small unit.  No idea as yet where it will go but I'm sure I'll work something out.

The chipping concept came from Gary Llaxob's FB posts.  I learnt the leather look from LPJ Models YouTube.  The secret for me was using French Ultramarine for the final highlights.  I'd have never thought of that.

Engines and assembly next which I'm hoping will be reasonably relaxing.  I'm going to follow PrzemoL's strategy and secure the fuselage to the bottom wing first which isn't how WnW suggest you go.  My main concern at this stage is trying to make sure I have all the rigging eyelets correctly located and don't find myself snookered once its all put together.  Wish me luck!

Hi Ian,
This build is looking great so far.
I have the UWD version, but like Nigel, size matters  ;)
Maybe one day I'll build it along with the Gotha G.IV, AEG G.IV and Felixstowe as well as the large Lukgraph float planes I have,

Mike, I haven't got the wings on yet but the fuselage length isn't quite as long as I thought it would be.  Bight the bullet and start your UWD, its a great model.

PrzemoL, your build is my number 1 point of reference, so thank you.  Between you and Gary Llaxob, you've saved me from a number of mistakes.  If you have time, I'd love some detailed photos showing how you rigged the section under the fuselage / between the engines.  All the photos I've found show the front of the plane but not any from the behind view.  The diagram looks like a rats nest!

Thanks Matt, the 'so far' is very appropriate  ;D  But it is coming along nicely

Hi. I am glad by build log is helpful :)
As for the photos, it is not easy to take them from the rear showing the bottom of the fuselage. Yet, there are some rear shots in the gallery of my Feodora
