My next build will be a foe for my Oeffag Mickle Blue Bird. Alberto Bortolozzo was the commander of 260 Squadriglia. While there is no documented evidence of Banfield and Bortolozzo dueling over the Adriatic, it is certainly possible that their paths crossed at some point.
I really like the clean lines of the Macchi M.5. It was the best seaplane fighter of the war. The colorful markings of 260 Squadrigilia makes it all the more appealing.
I?ve built a few Pegasus kits in my time. All of them require a certain amount of TLC but this one really is the most demanding kit I?ve encountered yet.

Here are the kits components. Originally I was going to add the Aeroclub Revelli guns. Later I decided to scratch build the little bit that would be visible instead.
A little scratch interior framing

The fuselage join was particularly troublesome. Pegasus has two concave separate hull parts to add. These did not fit well at all!

.

This is the scheme I plan on replicating. I found some spare skull decals from some Roden Albatross kit that should fit.

The hull was assembled and painted

Some extra details added

Masking and painting the stripes

Stripes are complete. Decals added ( My Pegasus decals completely shattered in water) I had to cobble together all the markings. The Italian rounders are Americal Gryphon. The fuselage rounded should be larger but I didn?t have the correct size.

Engine work completed. I added the rockers and some plumbing. Mesh screen added to the radiator face as well.

This is where it sits today. It?s almost ready for the attachment of the upper wing.

I modified the wing floats to resemble an earlier production version.

Scratched up a wind generator and mounted in front of the radiator face

Next post should be the finish!
Thanks for looking in!
