SPAD S.A.2 - WAK - 1/33
« on: December 13, 2024, 09:34:12 PM »
First flown in 1915, the plane is of a very peculiar design featuring nacelle for observer due to pre-synchronisation era shortcomings. Hated by observers due to intense vibrations and placement of propeller behind their back (imagine having to crash land in such a configuration). Quoted as "expensive in observers if flown by indifferent pilots". After being deemed obsolete, most of SA2s were transferred to russians.

This model was built a year ago after a long hiatus from paper modeling (~10 years). It came out bit crude in some places due to inexperience and being rusty after a long break, yet was fun and relatively easy to assemble.
Few additions not included in instructions were nacelle coupling mechanism, plywood prop, and detailed engine cylinders, otherwise it was mostly built "by book". The rigging was done using metalized thread as at that time I had no EZ line on my hands. The same kit also included Dufaux C.2.

I would call that an excellent job especially considering it is not an easy subject.

I agree completely! This is an Aircraft I would love to see in 1/32nd plastic. I am too intimidated to even think of trying to fold all of that paper  ::)  Beautifully done!
