So, who caved? - Warning: Hockey talk ahead -
« on: January 21, 2013, 06:09:37 AM »
So, to anyone that actually pays attention to hockey, who folded and came crawling back to hockey like everyone said we would? I view the Leafs with benign neglect at best, and the Habs with vehement disdain at worst, but I still watched what I could. I told myself that there was no way to financially spite Bettman by not watching at home, so I high-mindedly sniffed that I could make the intellectual separation. Doesn't mean I don't feel dirty, though.

Always happy to see the Canucks get smoked, though.  ;D

Anyone else?

Lindsay

Well Lindsay, I must admit it was fun to watch the Flyers-Pens last night.  I guess I missed NHL hockey after all!  This afternoon, however, I enjoyed something pretty cool locally--the AHL Hershey Bears (about 45 minutes from me) played the first AHL Winter Classic outdoors at Hershey Stadium, and it was broadcast live.  Perfect weather, clear and around 34.  There's something I love about outdoor hockey---I guess it takes me back to my youth, spending long winter Saturdays (at least it seemed like all day long) on frozen ponds.  Wilkes-Barre beat the Bears in OT, 2-1, and it was a good game. :)

Regards,

Bob

I watched and Im not proud.....I used to bleed Leaf blue but I got tired of all the transfusions...My son plays hockey and I find I enjoy those games far more now. As a goalie parent theres a bit of stress but I will take that over a night in front of the tv watching highly paid players play a dull brand of hockey. There goes 3 hrs of modeling time!

I would be glued to the screen if the Oilers/Canucks game was being broadcast. That's not to say I wouldn't throw rocks at Bettman if he happened by, I guess it's so ingrained in me and part of my make up that I'll watch regardless of the greed of the League and Owners, and the mercenary $ chasing by the Players. As I type this I glance at the framed Hockey Card of my Grandfather, 3 years NHL and I'm proud of it! Go figure why I watch regardless but given the last 5 months, doesn't make a lot of sense!
Cheers,
Lance

I'll at least watch the 1st intermissions to start out with, for my weekly dose of Don Cherry. As for the games, I have a hard time getting past billionaires fighting millionaires and holding the fans hostage.

Cheers,

Chris
You can have it good; You can have it fast; you can have it cheap. Pick any two, but all three are impossible.

Yep, that's pretty much the crowd that I expected to reply. And with the answers that I pretty much expected.

At least this time the NHL didn't paint "Welcome Back, Suckers!" at centre ice.

 Chris,
Sounds alot watching a NFL Football too. To go and see the Saint's play cost an arm and a leg now days. My wife refuses to go anymore calling it the Adventures of Men Behaving Badly. Man I hate it when she's right.
