Hi Pep - have you tried a picture hosting site? There are plenty of free ones around that allow you to upload pictures and post a link into your threads so that they appear in your posts. I use Imgur, for example, which is free and easy to use for forum posts.

Cheers,

I am selling a Roden SE5a Viper powered kit in 1/32nd scale. Please NOTE that the kit has had the Struts removed to repair a build that went wrong!  I repeat the struts are missing. That being said there are Aftermarket struts out there!

The kit will have Lots of Extras:
1. Eduard Brassin Vickers MG's.
2. MasterrCasters Prop and Radiator
3.Toms Model Works British Interior
4.HGW SE5a Masks( for wNW kit) but I am fairly certain it will work on the Roden kit
5.Resin cockpit /Fuselage from the Encore kit. ( There is a Chip on the left side)
6. PE remnants from the encore kit
7. Bonus 1/48th Eduard Brassin Lewis Guns
8. Resin cockpit upper fuselage for the Bulged opening on McCuddens earlier Se5a.

The Extras are probably worth More than I am asking!

$45.00 plus shipping. I will ship anywhere but the costs of shipping outside of the US are outrageous!
Thanks for looking, PM if interested

PayPal goods and services preferred as payment!

I agree with Dave - not for me but the paintwork is first class.

I thought that I was a glutton for punishment.... but I think that you win the award for finding the most time consuming and tedious process in WW1 modelling!

The effect looks superb - I hope that it is further enhanced when you paint it.

Thanks for showing us - any technique is useful and who knows, one day I might be doing something similar.

Stephen.

I feel as if it took me ages to complete but finally the paint work, shading and wash are done. And the final assembly could begin!

WW1 Aircraft Information/Questions / Re: Nieuport's engine cowling

Neat picture! I'm no expert, and someone with more knowledge may well have a definitive answer. That said, I've done some research on Nieuport cowlings and this particular example appears to have been treated with what's referred to as "engine turning" or "jewelling" (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engine_turning) after being imported into the US. It was used on various other period metal panels, some Sopwiths had it and it was closely related to the Fokker "sworling" process. Both, I believe, were employed in corrosion prevention, although the actual degree of protection it provided is somewhat unclear (at least to me).

WW1 Aircraft Information/Questions / Nieuport's engine cowling
« Last post by richard.kiss on April 25, 2024, 04:53:35 AM »
I've found an interesting photo about Nieuport on website of US Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division.
I cropped the photo to show only the engine cover, the subject of my question:

The caption says "LANGLEY FIELD, VA. FRENCH NIEUPORT PLANE, TYPE 17, WITH GNOME ROTARY ENGINE AND CHAUVIERE PROPELLER".

I would be very interested to know why the engine cover is so dotted?
Reference books say that the Nieuport 17 had a spun aluminium engine cover. As far as I know the metal spinning technique produces a quite perfect, continuous, smooth and shiny cone/dome shaped surface -- at least in modern days. See picture below:

In most Nieuport photos I don't see this mottled surface.
Is this an exceptional engine cover made with a different technology?
Or it's a regular outlook of Nieuport's cowling and we can't see the details on other photos due to the poor photo quality?

(The original photo can be viewed in full size here: https://loc.gov/pictures/resource/hec.09326/)

High Flies the Magpie
Here's a fun read of a dawn-patrol dogfight over Vaudemanges between a Morane-Salnier and an Albatros that was won with a carbine and ending with both airplanes crashing but all combatants surviving with a handshake.  This incident marks the first victory of future ace 'Pivolo' Georges Pelletier d'Oisy.
(from the South Wales Weekly Post, 24 April 1915):

Post script: "On 24 April 1924, Pelletier d'Oisy and Adjutant Lucien Besin departed Paris eastbound in a Breguet 19.A.2 in an attempt to fly around the world. Their attempt ended when they crashed their airplane on a golf course in Shanghai, China on 20 May 1924.[4] They had covered 10,580 miles (17,037 km) in 26 days" (via wikipedia).

Wow!

Not my thing but the work is wonderful, Ben -

Love the realistic weathered look to paint.
