Title: Lord Peter's amazing tribute
Post by: Doug Mace on October 11, 2018, 03:11:47 AM
Good people in the UK, (if you haven't already heard)...I got an email this morning from Great War SIG about the World Premiere of Peter Jackson's WWI doc "They Shall Not Grow Old" on Tuesday the 16th of October at the London Film Festival with it being a simultaneous screening in about 200 cinemas throughout  the UK...(evidently tickets  selling hotly)....and then to be aired on Armistice Day on the BBC. I just watched the all too brief trailer on IMDb...looks absolutely incredible....I would LOVE to see it theatrically but it'd be highly unlikely to be released as such here in North America but I'm sure we'll get it eventually on BBC America or the like.

It will also be sent to every high school in the UK. By the way, he's Sir, not Lord, but certainly deserves the latter!

I realized my mistake too late...but yeah, for us at least, he does deserve more than knighthood.

Great work, Sir Peter! (kind of wonder if he ever reads this, but you never, never know!) Marc

Amazing film finally reached Omaha this week. I was quite taken back when the first Tommy looked at the camera man directly as it had been colorized and he was walking at a normal speed. I had to remind myself it was from 1917 and not 2019.

Peter Jackson had lip readers determine what the soldiers were actually saying and then researched what regiment they were from and then had someone from that part of Great Britain with the correct accent speak the part.  Talk about accuracy!   As the cannons were being fired and reloaded he used WWI cannons (he owns a few) for the reloading sounds and his sound crew went out with the NZ army to record shells passing over head and exploding.   The narration is actual WWI vets recorded in the 1960’s talking about their experiences.  At the end of the credits Peter shows how the film was made.

Don’t miss it.
