With the taube having a slight accident at the hands of someone who has yet to understand the frailties of injection moulded styrene (ie, my 2 yo grandson), I've decided to put that to one side and get something else out of the stash and start a fresh.
Picked this now OOP kit up for 'normal' retail value not so long ago and have decided to thow a little extra AM at it....

Thanks to all the suppliers for providing what I need. Thanks too to Richard from Aviattic who felt that the underside lozenge pattern was a little too faded so sent me an extra sheet too. Class service indeed 8)

Plan to build Fokker D.VII F, 505/18, oOffz-Stv Wilhelm Hippert, Jasta 74, St.Loup-en-Champagne, September 1918 which is identified by its chequerboard fuselage and blue nose. As well as the updates for the BMW engine and magneto switches from Taurus, Gaspatch provide the MGs and some turnbuckles (1/48 scale for teh cockpit rigging), RB Models with some PE radiator faces and HGW with their excellent seatbelts. I'm also wanting to have a pilot to accompany the plane and this comes courtesy of elan13 Miniatures....

Another stunner for sure Gary. Looking forward to your progress.

I am looking forward to your build! The You have chosen a lovely scheme for sure!

Ooh sorry to hear about your Taube. My 2-yr old granddaughter has yet to destroy anything, But I imagine the day is coming.
Looking forward to you doing this one.

Not having much luck at the moment. Hobby shed was broken into over night and the ******s stole my airbrush and compressor, speaker system and my Nutter tool. Emptied the bin over the floor and used it to carry their loot out which also included, oddly enough, a contained of cotton buds????
Reported to Police and going through insurance claim now. Frustrating but nothing that can't easily be replaced but does mean that I'll have to put any painting on hold until I can get some replacement stuff ::)
Gary

Awww man, that really sucks. Commiserations!

I agree completely! I hate thieves of any kind but Break ins leave a scar like no others. Perhaps you can just spend some quality time with that 2 year old while waiting for things to be replaced.

Oh Gary, that is very sad this is my absolute nightmare. To know someonewas in our house. I hope you will get well over this shock.
The kit and additional parts are really great. I can't wait to see your first steps on this beauty.
Bye,
Manni

You really aren't having much luck! Sorry to hear about this, hope you are up and running soon.
-
Oh Gary, sorry to read this, really you're going through a bad period.
Strangers breaking in your home should be a very hurting experience.
Although I agree with Rick about gaining quality time elsewhere I (we) will miss your great works for a (hopefully short) while.
Hugs

Thank you for the kind comments :D
Back in the seat now. Talking of seats, here's this kite's one with the back covered with Aviattic CDL....

Very nice start with that seat, Gary. I really like the look of the linnen decals over the seat.

Your seat, seatbelts, and bulkhead have turned out beautifully. The lacing looks great, something I struggled with on all 3 of my DVIIs.
RAGIII

WOW Gary the seat looks fantastic on its place.
The seatbelts are astonishing, that small chain is a fantastic detail.
Antonio

Have to agree with the above comments, a mini-masterpiece Gary.

Instrument panel. WnW decals, Taurus Models Starting Magneto and Magneto Selector Switch, Airscale instrument bezels, Aviattic wood effect decal and selector switches made from PE soldered together sourced from my spares box...

Loving the look of that cockpit.

Outstanding looking office. Looks very impressive.
-
Outstanding Gary, one of the nicest interiors I've seen here over the years! The turnbuckles, ammo chutes and that spectacularly finished seat all just "pop" out in the photos. This is going to be a real winner!

Same from this Amigo Looks Terrific!

Thanks gentlemen :D
Fuselage halves are joined together. The forward triangular pieces (depicting fabric covering on this kite) are seperate pieces and the grey lines are Mr Surfaced used to fill and small defects prior to final sanding.

Coming together nicely.

Excellent progress on the fuselage!
RAGIII
-
Looking great Gary, looking forward to your progress.
-
VERY slow progress - in fact, a lot of it spent in retreat. Experienced catastrophic issues with the originally planned markings - so much so that I ended up stripping teh fuselage back to bare styrene and am now going with one of Ltn. Oliver von Beaulieu-Marconnay's kites using WNW lozenge as teh base 'colour' with Pheon winged sword and 4D markings. I'm waiting for the decals to dry fully before I start to apply blue paint - allowing the markings and lozenge to faintly show though....

Well the recovery is excellent!!
Steve

Sorry to hear about your issues but it looks like you are taking it in stride and well on your way to the "New" Markings!
RAGIII
-
Progress is slow! Finally managed to get some more paint on. Blue and red are thinned down and applied lightly so the lozenge and previous markings just show though....

Looks excellent, Gary! Love the way the markings show through.

Beautiful painting! The overpainting of the previous markings look perfect. You also have done an outstanding job on eliminating the seam on the triangular panel.
RAGIII
-
Thanks guys.
RAGIII - lost count of the amount of time I spent on those seams!!!!!
Taurus Models provide the Fokker type cowl fasteners. Fiffly, but huge improvvement on the kit renderings....

230hp BMW IIIa engine. WingNut Wings kit with Taurus Models goodies like valve springs, rocker arms and spark plugs. Few scratch built details such as sump sight glass, copper wire plug leads and sump pan screw heads (to replace recessed ones with kit). Painted with acrylics and enamels and weathered with MIG washes etc....

Lovely grimy well used engine! Looks perfect to my eyes!
RAGIII

That engine is just spectacular, you've used the after market bits and a bit of scratch building to great effect and the finish and weathering provide a degree of realism that's hard to believe, just excellent work! Very enjoyable to follow your progress here, a great Build! :)
Cheers,
Lance
