HI everyone,
I've been understanding that the factory finish of the Pfalz D.III was a silvery-gray paint. This has me wondering about profiles that show them with lozenge wings.
I loved The Blue Max... and I know there were some other planes where the lozenge waspainted on.
Does anyone know of a period photo with lozenge wings?
Cheers,
Gaz

Gaz, there were many Pfalz D. IIIa with Tarnstoff covered flying surfaces, but I never saw one with painted hexagons on the fuselage. They went on painting the fuselages Silbergrau.

Gaz,
Albatros Productions have several Data Files and "At War" volumes that contain numerous good photos of D.III's and D.IIIa's with Tarnstoff covered wings. I believe most are still available and I treasure mine, great references! (although I've dealt with this company for years I have no affiliation with Albatros)
Cheers,

Also on the WNW website, there are two decal sets (Pfalz DIIIa Flying Circus 1 & 2) that each have a couple Pfalz options that had lozenge wings - the instructions are online from there and there are some pics as well....

I dd this one based on a Photo in Greg van Wyngardens' von Richthofen and the Flying Circus book. The photo shows the wings and center fuselage but not the tail so the tail color is conjectural based on common Jasta 4 practice. Aviattic does a nice cookie cutter sheet for the lozenge wings.

Guys,
Thanks for the helpful, informative replies and the great links. The blue tail Pfalz looks awesome!
I should buy some more Albatross books... I haven't had any since I moved from the US.
Cheers,
Gaz
