I picked this kit up along with the J.1 at the Wingnut Wings Scale Model Expo stand last month. There is something quite beautiful about this ungainly looking plane and after deciding to put any fears of that rigging to one side, have pulled this out of the stash for my next build.

Planning on using some HGW belts, Uschi woodgrain and Aviattic decals and probably some Gaspatch turnbuckles where appropriate.
Will be making a start shortly, so stay tuned....

Looking forward to following your build!

Nice choice, I too look forward to your progress.

Cool! Glad to see another Taube build starting. :)
Cheers,

Following, will be interesting to see this.

Welcome along chaps. Hope you enjoy the ride :D
Okay, first step is the cockpit floor. Started by spraying the rear section gloss white (pre shading with Tamiya Smoke), masked off the frame and sprayed that light green and used Aviattic's CDL clear decal. Ezi-Line was then used for the bracing wires....

Front section is again painted white. This time I pre-shaded the section with clear orange and a little smoke. Then I used some Uschi wood grain decals with plenty of micro sol to help them sit snugly over all teh detail....

Set aside overnight now to fully dry.

Awesome start! The fabric and wood look perfect!
RAGIII

Very nice indeed! Those wood grain decals are awesome!

Hi Gary
It already looks really great! Man you are faster than Ben Lam (Kiwi reference from a Hurricanes fan)! I struggle to do half of what you do in ten times the time. I look forward to more updates.
Cheers,
Alistair

Good to see another Taube being beautifully built!
-
Thanks guys.
Couple of steps forward. Uschi woodgrain decals applied over white basecoat tinted with clear orange. Ezi-line for rigging and control cables. Fuel filter is replaced with a scratchbuilt glass tube made from heat stretched sytrene and replacement cable on the tacho...

Very, very nice!
will be following this one as well, sure to be an other winner.
What sceme are you planning to do?
-
Wow, what a lot of rigging inside the fuselage! Wasn't aware of that before.
-
Colors, weathering, rigging, and detail all look beautiful.
RAGIII
-
I love the precision of your interior rigging.
Color me envious!
-
Great start! And I am not surprised, that Taube is tempting. I will be watching it with great interest.

Thanks guys.
Small update tonight as cockpit progresses. Next step will be to make up and fit the HGW seatbelts....

100% with other comments. Brilliant work! Keep it coming.

Thank you :D
Belts - courtesy of HGW - are added. The PE coils are poorly detailed and flat in profile (as with the WnW parts too) so I scratched new ones using .010 lead wire....

Superb interior, looks fantastic. You've really made those HGW belts work well, I have several stored away and will definitely have to use them.

The belts look fantastic! Nicely done springs

Excellent detailing all around!

Made a start on the Argus motor....

Beautifully weathered engine Gary!

Thanks RAGIII
Fuselage interior gets a coat of gloss white and them some preshading using Tamiya Smoke. The interior will be hard to see so the preshading is over exaggerated so it can still when the fuselage halves are joined together....

Aviattic CDL provides the interior finish.
Forgot to take some photos of the rigging on the side completed, but here is the other side with the cockpit tub installed - in fact, fitment is so good that I probably won't bother with any cement!

Time to put the two halves together I guess....
Gary

Very realistic.
Excellent work.

Really, really great job. The interieur and the engine look outstanding. I love the interior rigging.

Great updates, the interiors and the engine look excellent.

Thanks guys.
Crew tub is now selaed in place and the critical part of hiding the seams between the two fuselage halves is under way. A little wet and dry sanding is followed by a thin coat of flat grey to see if there are any visible lines. Any small areas are given a coat of Tamiya Mr Surfacer and left to fully harden before further sanding and more flat grey. Process is repeated until the join is invisible. Something I'm having to pay a lot of attention too as it wasn't something you had to wory about too much with armoured vehicles ;D

Excellent work so far, very impressive. It's a pity to have to cover so much of it up by closing the fuselage......

Very nice work!!

Excellent progress!

Mixed news with this update I'm afraid....
Firtsly, decided to try to improve upon the pulley on top of the rudder but raiding my PE spares box along with some brass tube and wire and soldering everything together....

Rigging anchor points are being replaced with Gaspatch items....
Then..... Our grandson is staying with us tonight and I made a fatal error. Yep, you guessed it, he got hold of the taube while it was in the photo ooth in the study and....

Not a complete disaster, but certainly enough that it won't be a simple fix. I'll need to rebuild most of the rudder/skid assembly from scratch I think. But for now, I'm going to put it to one side and let the friustration dissapate and get something else underway before revisiting it I think.

My 1 1/2 year old is also a modeling hurdle, I moved my work area from my desk to the top of my dresser, and had to relocate all my models 2 shelves higher. The only casualties thus far are the prop on my Morane AI and the rudder on my WNW Triplane. My 5 year old daughter has only every broken one, and she has been ultra careful since!
-
As you say Gary, "not a complete disaster, but ........". I think it's a great approach to put it aside for a while and a new project will brighten your outlook a bit. Little folks and models are a bad mix; like most here, I suspect, I learned that lesson the hard way too as a Father who built models on the side!
Great subject you've chosen for therapy, and one of my favorite schemes.
Cheers,
Lance

Ouch.... That pulley looks marvelous, sorry to hear about mishap. Grandchildren, gotta love them.

I agree with Lance on all counts and of course had something similar with my young Son. Oddly my Granddaughter spent hours in my model room from an early age and never touched one 8)

Ouch!

If the work you've done so far is any indication the repairs should be successful.

Oh dear. I'm not normally a supporter of corporal punishment, but in this case........ Just kidding of course. I am sure you will be able to resurrect her just fine with your skills.
