The release of Rumplers by WNW did not cause my interest at the beginning. Then I found information that a few of these machines were used in Poland post-war but did not make a career - were deemed to be difficult to fly and were quite soon removed from service. This made my interest even smaller.
But then, last year, when WNW held the warehouse cleaning after water damage the issue of Polish Rumpler returned. And on that ocassion, attracted by the significantly reduced price, I decided to buy a copy of the late version kit - to fit the aircraft photographed in May 1919 at Cracow Rakowice airfield

This is probably the only photographed Polish C.IV. It attracted my attention due to its natural material colours - I supppose it will make for a fine looking unusual model.
I have started working on it just after I have completed Dolphin.
At the moment the innards are basically ready for buttoning up the fuselage. I have added the control cables to be run through the entire fuselage to the openings at the tail as well as the fuel selector switches on the instrument board. There is also a control lever set in the observer cabin, where the linkage is missing - if I find the photos I may still add this, too.

How good to see you on a Rumpler, it's a great plane that is not very often modelled despite the great WNW kits. I am keen on following your progress.
Andreas
-
Nice to see the next project.
Adam.
-
A fantastic made interior, even if incomplete yet, and control cables running through entire hull - it is already a Przemol’s trademark. In addition, an interesting topic and additionally regarding aircraft which the model is rather not so often seen on this forum.
I am waiting for a continuation patiently,

WOW, Przemek you are a modelling sprinter of some sort... The Dolphin was completed in what? two weeks and you`ve got another build...
As always - an eye candy. It`s a pleasure to follow your WIP threads and to learn in the process.
-
Great start P, your talents surely show. Will follow with interest.

Outstanding work as always. I am of course, enjoying your progress on this one!

A sprinter? Dolphin took me 7 weeks. And I am working on this one for two weeks now. I am not that quick, Filip. It is time that is flowing so quickly, you do not even notice it.

what i really like is the detail on the back of the instrument panel

The interior details are done beautifully!

Hi Prze.
Whoever said beauty is only skin deep got it wrong.
There's lots of beauty in this interior!
:)

Beautiful build, the interior is very atractive, love the light wood tones.

Another masterpiece underway Prze. Your interior is, as always, magnificent work, I've got this Kit on the shelf as well so I look forward to following and learning from your efforts here.
Cheers,
Lance

Just wonderful. I was looking at this kit just yesterday and thought "maybe" but these photos and your work head me towards "yes"...
Cheers
Alistair

That looks great -one of my favourite WWI aircraft, but as stated before not one you see built very often. I have one to build later, so I'm watching with eagle-eyes :)

Compared to my building speed 7 weeks is better than a sprinter, More Like The Flash ;D

The work on Rumpler goes on. The engine was finally mounted painted and amended with a few missing pipes and electric cables. It is still to be weathered and I will mount it after the fuselage is painted.

Wow, Przemo! Very beautiful! You have done some great work here! The cockpit is gorgeous and that engine... Just Lovely! Regards, Marc
-
Beautiful work Przemo, another masterpiece in the making. Are you going to apply weathering to the engine later?
-
Great looking model as usual. I love the interior.
Andreas

That engine is as good as modelling gets Prze! The top end, plumbing and wiring are all extraordinarily well done. My sincere compliments on some really spectacular work! 8) 8) 8) 8)

Spectacular work on the engine, Przemo! Great progress on the fuselage, too!

Exemplary engine work.
Did you follow the Taurus valve spring layout?
Looks like a factory fresh aircraft.

That engine IS amazing!

Thank you, everybody.
Beautiful work Przemo, another masterpiece in the making. Are you going to apply weathering to the engine later?
Sure, some dirt will be added before attaching the engine. BTW I have mentioned it in my post ;)

Yes, the springs follow the layout given in Taurus instructions.
-
Great looking motor!!
Steve
-
I see that work has exceeded the halfway point, as always everything looks great: inside of the fuselage and the engine too, top class.
Did you find any pics showing how to lead linkage to control lever in rear cabin - just above an empty bomb rack?
8)
-
Beautiful work on the interiors and the engine.
Ciao
Giuseppe

This next masterpiece just continues...
Ed
-
Thank you, gentlemen.
Buzby, yes, I have found one photo in WD where the front cockpit is shown and there is a linkage running along the starboard wall at the height fitting the level of the lever in the rear cockpit. So I assumed this was that missing linkage from the rear cockpit. Duly added to the model.
And some more progress.
Hinged Gaspatch turnbuckles prepared - 6 small ones for the control surfaces at the tail and 22 large ones for the interplane and undercarriage rigging.
And a small proof, that WNW's, rightly called the best model kits in the world, are not perfect in all aspects. Here I found three places calling for significant filling, levelling unpleasant steps and sanding - underside of the top wing joint between the centre piece and outer wing panels as well as two spots under the fuselage.
I am showing this not to complain but to indicate, that contrary to some opinions I heard recently that these kits are shake-and-bake, they are not so. And they surely leave some space for amendments, corrections, etc. In many cases the photos on the instruction booklets show that the kit parts are missing some detail.

Some paintwork results on the wings, tail-feathers and fuselage. There are upper wing checkboards shadows, shading on the top surfaces, metal fittings and wash still to be done. But the bulk of the work is already there :)

Oooo like a brand new plane!
Translucent effect is very nice , look forward to the rest of the work.
I went in a checked your engine work with the valve train , looks ok , I can see where it is a bit of a problem lining up the springs. If you look at page 3 of The Gotha you will see some effort to help with this , for future reference...

Very sharp!!
Steve

Thank you!
The top wing jumped on without fuss. Rigging started with stagger lines, which have the turnbuckles not just at the bottom ends but a bit higher to avoid colission with the struts - it required some more tying.

And the last bits involve the exhaust stack, which still needs to be rusted and smoked and the engine covers. Even though I do not plan to attach them, they need to be prepared to be put separately on the base of the model for the modelling contests presentation. This requires some substantial thinning of their thickness and one of them, where originally Spandau pops out needed to be blinded as per the photo of the original plane in Polish service which was not armed.

My thoughts exactly. They had to pop the heads aside, I reckon.
