My first completed model for 2018 is Eduard's Fokker F.I.
The markings are for an aircraft flown by commander of Jasta 10, Werner Voss in the summer of 1917. Voss, who had rapidly acquired 48 victories in the previous months, was shot down by James McCudden, while flying this particular Fokker F.I.
There is a good deal of debate on whether Voss had a yellow or green cowl. It looks yellow to me on historic photos I've seen, so thats what I went with. Plus I like having color on my display shelves.
The kit was a Christmas gift from my mother-in-law, and it was a great one. Lots of fun to build and paint. There is plenty of detail in the box (this was the Weekend Edition), and the kit is generally well engineered. The only things I added were wine bottle foil seat belts, Gaspatch turnbuckles, and EZ-line rigging wires. I had a few problems with struts popping out of their locations, but I can't help but wonder if it was something I did wrong.
Painting was done with Tamiya (the light blue) and Vallejo earth green and Russian green primers. The chrome nose and wheels are Tamiya yellow and orange mixed about 7:3.
Thanks for looking.

Outstanding Fokker! Very good streaking, clean build and nice subtile weathering.
Bye,
Manni

Copy that - a very fine streaking. Nice result all around!
-
Beautiful!
-
Have to agree with all of the above, congratulations. :D
-
I enjoyed watching this one come together. What I really like is the outstanding results you achieved on the streaking and look of this aircraft! Very well done!

Agree with all the above.

Thanks, for the kind comments. Very much appreciated

A great rendition.Thoroughly enjoyed following your build.

That's a fabulous F1 Softy!
I like your choice of cowling colour. Regardless of what colour it actually was, it should have been yellow. ;D
Well done.
cheers
:)

pretty work, i'll be studying your build closely in spite of it being the 'wrong' scale for me....
i just scored the Encore 1/32 version of Voss' F.1. even with the educational material, can't guarantee i'll get it as right as that.
-
That is a truly super model. Never mind the colour of the cowling - we will probably never know what it really was - it still looks the part regardless.
Just for the record I have written on another site about the details as known of Voss' demise: he was not credited to McCudden but to A. P. F. Rhys-Davids, also of 56 Squadron. McCudden was leading the squadron on that fateful day in 1917. Sadly neither Rhys-Davids or McCudden survived the war either.

Outstanding Build Ralph, what a beauty as mentioned it is difficult to comprehend that is 1/48 scale 8) 8) everything is so beautifully done.
-
You guys are too kind.
Seriously, I hope to someday be able to build the kind of gems some of you put up, I'll be very proud.
-
Very nice Triplane, what a pretty model it got!
But next time remember: It is for sure that Voss' Cowling was painted blue. With pink speckles. But keep that secret! ;)

Very nice indeed!

Recently looked at the photos myself, and I agree with the yellow cowling. Can't guarantee that the photo was reproduced accurately and not damaged etc. But it sure looks a different color to the green streaks. And it's the standard unit marking. So I'll be joining you in the yellow cowling club when I do this one.

Hi "SoftScience"
Great job on that Fokker. The streaking is excellent. Maybe you need a figure to go with it to show some "human scale"? We make a 1/48 Voss figure sculpted by Mike Good. Check it out here:

Thank you, all. Your kind comments really mean a great deal to me.
Paul, interesting suggestion about the figure. Having taken on rigging, I feel like my next big modeling hurdle should be figure painting. I've tried it several times, with mixed results.
I'm certainly not good enough to justify spending money on a resin figure, just yet.

Nice model, I like the streaking - not a easy task, but you overcame it.
Cheers,
Frank
