Outstanding!! Too late for my Christmas List however I'd rather order from our main National Distributer; better price overall and, importantly, I want to support the shop. All we need now is a 1&1/2 Strutter and the major Sopwith inventory is covered!
Cheers,
Lance

incidentally the instructions are already uploaded on the Wingnuts site and a full downloadable version is now available.

The kit looks amazing. I decided to see how long I could withstand the temptation to buy one. It was the longest 25 seconds of my life! :)
.
A good price too. This one should be a winner.

At my wifes insistence, I bought one from WNW rather than wait for Lots o Models to get them in.  It's not the prettiest, but it's neat none the less.

Not the prettiest indeed lol it’s all in the eyes of the beholder... imho one of the most underrated aircraft of wwi along with the Bristol M1c... it’s pugnacious looking.  :o

Now we just need a DH4 next Christmas ;)

Well, if they ain't going to do anything AH, then I would rather have a DH5 than a DH4.

Is the $79 price tag pleasantly low in anyone elses opinion? I would have figured it would be in the $119 range.

Was thinking the same thing!

It's a single engine scout plane.  Other than the Fokker D.VII, those have all have fallen in the $79.00 range, especially the British aircraft.

Lovely. I was really afraid, there would be no Christmas surprise this year. Duly ordered one. I still prefer to buy directly from NZ, may be a bit more expensive but the feeling it flies directly to me all around the globe is a part of the pleasure. And it may just come here for Christmas :)
And because of this
As an added bonus, my great-uncle's bus is featured on the box top!
Cheers,
Bud
I may finally be able to build this one which I gave up with CSM. If you allow, Bud, for a token of our long friendship, though virtual it is. :)

There's a few spare, blued-out parts--will there be a second boxing for another version?
Only five markings--the SARD night markings take up space on the sheet that might otherwise be used by at least 2 other individual markings.  A 19 Sqn option would have given full Western front representation.
(I pulled the trigger anyway)

The blued out parts are for a later Dolphin but most of them if not all are noted in the instructions.  I would venture to say there will not be another boxing of this without a completely modified sprue or it would have to be a post war like the D9 and BrisFit.

It would be lovely but unfortunately the Polish version cannot be documented. There are no clear photos of any of 10 Polish Dolphins showing markings. Dolphins were little liked a/c among Polish pilots, deemed dangerous to fly. They served only a few weeks  during the Warsaw battle Aug 1920 and probably no one cared of taking any photos of them.
In this situation I doubt WNW otherwise known for thorough research would release anything like this. IMHO it is also a reason for no AH subjects in their offer, where the a/c from same batches differed so much among them, that any research is very difficult.

It is the decals that make the difference. Those German single seaters that have higher price tags have more decal sheets. The base price is $79 USD, with multiple decal sheets driving the price up. Note the Fokker E types are not as highly priced; less decals.  The Roland CII is not a single seater.

Why is it that $79 price tag for the sopwith snipe seems too cheap to this guy? Obviously it's a single seater, less plastic sprues,  that quote is out of place, no everybody might even afford paying that!!

Argh! I just (almost) rounded out my WNW Sopwith collection on Black Friday ordering both Snipes, and now there’s another! Sprue Brothers here I come!

To be fair, I only have one of the several Camels and sadly no RNAS Pup, but at least each type they offer is represented in the stash.

Naaaa... a dolphin! No one needs a dolphin, as there's such a great dolphin in 1:48 scale.... ;)
Kidding aside, that one looks very good on the sprues although in my opinion there are many planes in WWI skies that are prettier. I preordered one and can patiently lean back waiting her to arrive across the sea.

I'm new to the surprise WNW December release. Must not have had one last year. Although my modeling time has been non-existent (usually late winter is when I have time) I do periodically check in here and the WNW site. I was thrilled to see this new kit. Not that I have been wanting it or even knew what a Sopwith Dolphin was (I have a lot to learn), I do however, really like the look of it and I do like Sopwiths and British planes in general. For anyone in the States, Lots of Models has them. I got free shipping and 10% off by using the coupon lots2buy. I have ordered from them before and was happy. If this is sounding like a commercial I apologize, I have no connection to them. Sprue Brothers also has them only a larger order is needed for free shipping.

I started on the Dolphin yesterday.  So far so good.  I see a some molded on parts to the interior that in the past would have been a part to cement to the framework.  The Fuel Pressure pump being one of them.  I like that the plumbing is molded into the frame as are some of the other details that would normally be fixed to the framework.  It simplifies the assembly process.  Internal rigging attachment points are indicated and only need to be drilled out which also eases the rigging process.  So far a real step up in the engineering of the kit.  The engine is form the SE.5 kit and the control horns will be familiar to those who have built a Camel kit, no surprises that I can see.

Just got delivery of my first Dolphin from Black Mike models in Scotland - best price I've seen in UK, 69.95GBP incl postage.

Just commenting to say I'm delighted to see WNW have included the wing mounted Lewis guns as used by 87Sqdn. I made one if these in 48 scale a few years back from the old Waldo Resins kit, as I had to have the RAF`s first multi gun fighter in my collection. Had to cobble together mountings and Aeroclub guns back then. Thank you WNW for providing these little beauties in the kit.
(... and thank you again for kitting this fabulous, important, undervalued aeroplane.)
S
