Hello my friends,
since I finished my what-if-Libelle, I wanted to do something more common. I looked in my stash and put out the Hansa-Brandenburg from the Duellists Box. For me Christiansen is not so interesting for me, I decided to build just an unknown W29.
Some of you that know me know I prefer a story around the plane.
So I decided to build an abandoned W29, one float sunken, standing in swampy water at an old mossy jetty.
The plane will look heavily worn and the wood will be rotten.
Below a wing there will be a shelter of an old homeless man (may be the pilot of the plane?) with his poor possesing. The man will sit below an old tree wit a improvised fishing rod in his hand.
But first the W29 has to be build.
First I start with the damages of the interieur. Made by a sharp knife and some tweezers.

(https://abload.de/img/5nss4r.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=5nss4r.jpg)
The rotten and bleached wood was made with Tamiya colours (XF24, XF54, XF55, XF60, XF63)

(https://abload.de/img/76dst4.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=76dst4.jpg)
After that the rotten areas were covered with masking fluid.
(https://abload.de/img/8ovs31.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=8ovs31.jpg)
For the seat belts I used the HGW ones since they will better align with the damaged seats.
(https://abload.de/img/109esdw.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=109esdw.jpg)
The dashboard was treated the same way as the above mentioned floor.
Just drilled some holes for the instruments that are hanging out of it. The instruments are made from sprue.
(https://abload.de/img/11b1sbv.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=11b1sbv.jpg)
Here are some pics of the work up to now. There will be a lot of more work to do a model that looks realistic withered by time.

I hope you like it.
I know some may say that it is a sacrilege to treat a W29 kit in this way, but i will do my best to make a special model, that shows the beauty of rot and decay.
Bye,
Manni

Wow Manni, very innovative. Your treatment is outstanding. Love what you have done so far, am sure will turn out to be quite a stunner. Looking forward to future posts. :D
-
Manni,
A brilliant idea and brilliant work, this is going to be a thrill to follow! I really am impressed by the way you've portrayed the deteriorated Instrument Panel and the splintered and rotted wood on the floor is spot on. Looking forward to following this immensely!
Cheers,
Lance

This is going to be a fun build to follow Manni 8)
Terri
-
Wow!
A fantastic idea, and a great start. I can't see anyone complaining about what you're doing to this, it's only a kit after all, and they are there for modelers to build....any way we like!
Ian

Manni,
First class modeling my friend! I'm looking forward to following along this project. Keep up the awesome works my friend.

Manni,
what a great start to realize a very creative idea! Not only creative, but also solid workmanship.
I will watch with great interrest!
Cheers,

I recently came across this build Manny and although my heart breaks seeing a plane rotting I am deeply impressed by the stunning craftmanship of your build. World class as usual and I will follow closely!
Andreas
-
Mani,
I wholly agree with Ian - what you do with a kit is up to you. Personally I think that this will be a one-ff and thus very exciting and a very unusual subject and presentation. If you continue the way that you have started you will have a very striking and eye -catching model. I am going to follow this with great interest.
Stephen.
-
Hello my friends thank you so much for your overwhelming comments, thank you!!! I will do my very best to keep you entertained by my work.
Bye,
Manni
-
Interesting concept Manni: Certainly a test of your modeling skills and creativity. So far it is looking the part as you use some innovative techniques to capture the neglect and weathering of an aircraft sitting un attended. I too am looking forward to seeing how you accomplish the rest of the build.
-
Hello my gentlemen,
I have now finished the weathering of the interieur of the Hansa. Next will be the engine and the closing of the fuselage.
But now here are some more pictures of the old, abandoned swan.

That is outstanding Manni, she has definitely seen better days. 8)

That is weathering the like of which I have not seen before. This is going to be some model when it is finished. Looking forward to the next instalment.
Stephen.

Very nice

Really well done Manni! I am looking forward to the next installment!
RAGIII

truly beautiful; I think my favorite part is the instruments dangling from their bezels. keep up the excellent work!

Such poor aircraft ...

has a great future on a nice and fantastic dio, I'm sure!
Cheers,

-
Thank you all my friends for your very encouraging words! ;D
Now it was time for the engine (the upper half, because the lower part will be hidden by the fuselage)
First I build it and added some lead wire and Albion tubes to let it look more realistic.
After that I sprayed a random pattern of brown, red and orange over it. I Put some chipping fluid over it and gave it a coat of flat black.
After chipping the black, I applied different pigments, wetened with white spirit and let it dry 2 days.
After that I took a stiff brush and removed most of the pigments again. Then I have added some engine oil and grime. After this was dry a careful treatement with slimey grime light and dark green was done to simulate some Algae.
Here is the result.

(https://abload.de/img/22i1sod.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=22i1sod.jpg)
See you soon with the next update.
Cheers,
Manni
-
I Love the engine! Looks properly rusty and algae covered! Well Done !!
RAGIII
-
Beauty Manni, looks like it has been out in the salty air for a while.
-
Truly amazing work, Manni! That engine looks real! Disused, worn, torn and beat all to hell, but real.
Cheers,
Bud
-
That is art of the highest order. I wholly agree with Bud - an utterly decrepit engine!
-
Really a nicely done engine, Manni. I can even smell seasalt, oil and rotting wood...
Andreas
-
You are doing an excellent job with this build, the weathering is superb, love what you did with the engine.
Des.
-
Hello my friends, thank you all for your kind and welcome comments! :)
Some minor progress on the Hansa:
The engine was installed and the Hex camo was applied.
(https://abload.de/img/22aqssn2.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=22aqssn2.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/23vmsp6.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=23vmsp6.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/2482scn.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=2482scn.jpg)
The housing of the rev meter was hollowed out and a cable was added to the hanging out instrument.
(https://abload.de/img/259nssm.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=259nssm.jpg)
The fuel tank cap was scratched and a small chain was added to the fuel tank.
(https://abload.de/img/26k6sxg.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=26k6sxg.jpg)
The engine cowling was thinned out and some PE parts and holes were added.
(https://abload.de/img/27wlsuc.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=27wlsuc.jpg)
I decided to use the more elegant beaching dollies. Sadly Wingnuts didn't provide any PE parts for them. So I had to do them by my own.
I drilled with a 0.3mm drill 12 holes around each side of the axis of the wheel. With 0.2mm wire I made the 24 spokes.
(https://abload.de/img/2820skx.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=2820skx.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/29jfssv.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=29jfssv.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/30q0sj3.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=30q0sj3.jpg)
Since I decided to do an unknown machine I added the generator and made it look rusty and worn. The prop will be added later.
(https://abload.de/img/33d5sms.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=33d5sms.jpg)
The engine needed some more debris, leafs and a bird's nest.
(https://abload.de/img/32lsskb.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=32lsskb.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/34yisp2.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=34yisp2.jpg)
That's it for now. Hope you enjoy this build,
bye,
Manni
-
Wow Manni, what can I say, simply spectacular. Love the nest with the eggs... where is momma, LOL.
-
OK Manni, you get the title of the "King of Weathering"!! I thought I had a pretty good palate of weathering and aging tricks but your bird's nest takes the art to new heights! (the rest is really good too!) This is a real gem and a joy to follow, realism at it's best.
Cheers,
Lance
-
Manni, I don't visit as much as I did and pop into threads very rarely so have only just seen your thread here for the first time.
All I can say is you are a very brave (and extremely talented) man. To take such a kit and do what you are doing takes real nerve, phenomenal commitment and extreme confidence. What you've done so far shows you have all that and more.
Truly - a superb piece of work and vision. I look forwards to it's fruition.
Great work Manni - Tug
-
Hello Manni:
The weathering and aging you have done is truly amazing. As mentioned, the imagination and creativity and ability to translate that into a weathered model is a work of modeling art. As Lance mentioned, the birds nest is a nice touch, complete with eggs yet! Looking forward to seeing what else you can come up with. An intersting concept for a diorama to say/write the least.
-
Now this is realy something else.!! also nice photography ..
-
Excellent weathering Manni! Continuing to be a unique project! I Love your work!
RAGIII
-
Amazing, simply amazing, the birds nest is a great touch.
Des.
-
The leaves inside the engine really take this to the next level. This is incredibly well done.
-
A bitd‘s Nest in an old war machine. That’s poetic, Manni, I really love the idea. I can only echoes all the positive comments above: A truly spectacular build! Wonderful!
Andreas
-
Absolutely great work, Bravo Manni! I ´m looking forward seeing this gem in Lingen ;)
Jörg
-
As others have written this is truly a work of art: and of the very highest standard. The attention that you give to the tiniest and seemly least significant detail leaves me lost for words.
Stephen.
-
Wow, I am shaking, your comments are overwhelming! Thank you.
Today I want to introduce a new method (invented by me 8))for a more realistic kind of chipping. I call it " Real chipping"
The method is quiet easy. First you take something elastic like a medical glove and put it over a pot or a glas. Make sure that there is tension in the rubber. Then take the desired colour and paint it with a brush on the rubber material and let it dry for a day.
(https://abload.de/img/379wsi7.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=379wsi7.jpg)
After drying take the glove off and tear it into different directions. You will see the paint will crack and you will get flakes.
(https://abload.de/img/38eqsm9.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=38eqsm9.jpg)
Now you can apply these paint flakes with a wet brush on the desired area of your model (previous moistened with some varnish).
(https://abload.de/img/36geshf.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=36geshf.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/39k8sd2.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=39k8sd2.jpg)
After that you can apply some washings
(https://abload.de/img/41fdsea.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=41fdsea.jpg)
and add some highlights with a lighter tone to make it more interesting.
(https://abload.de/img/42suse2.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=42suse2.jpg)
Hope you like and try it, may be you can improve it,
Bye,
Manni
-
Absolutely FANTASTIC idea and perfectly executed, Manni! This is a really convincing method for heavy paint chipping especially on wooden surfaces. I am keen on giving it a try (you make me thinking about building another wrecked machine...)
All the best
Andreas
-
Brilliant work Manni. As a true "Master Modeller" once told me, the "best way to replicate a material or effect is to use the real thing". That's amazing work, and I hope you don't mind if I add it to my bag of weathering tricks!?
Cheers,
Lance
-
I quote the two fellows above, it's a fantastic idea!
-
Just gets better and better, post after post. :D

Manni,
Lance has said it beautifully and accurately! Brilliant work!
RAGIII

Manni, that idea is so cool, the effect don't look real. It is real 8)
This will be a great dio! You should just take care of the birds nest. In that big scale some predators can take it for real ;)
I stay tuned for sure for the next surprises!
Cheers,

Genius Manni!

Excellent effect -looks just my garden shed I've neglected to paint now for a few years!

Just catching up.....and catching my breath too! That is stupendous. What a brilliant idea!! I do not know how you could improve on this - but I do not doubt for one moment that you will.
Stephen.

Thank you all my mates!
Here I have a small update:
The cowling was weathered and some debris was placed on it. It will lay below the floats later.
(https://abload.de/img/20180204_2023495ysx2.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=20180204_2023495ysx2.jpg)
The faded Naval Hex was applied to the wings (quiet tricky)
(https://abload.de/img/20180204_202418nyspt.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=20180204_202418nyspt.jpg)
and the markings have been scratched and damaged.
(https://abload.de/img/20180207_2119585ls20.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=20180207_2119585ls20.jpg)

After some weathering with the fadeing technique and some pastels the first steps are done for a nice old look. There will come up much, much more)
Right now it is a lot of fun and I can recommend everyone to give it a try, too.
Bye,
Manni

Bravo Manni, this deserves standing ovations. Looking forward to see the surrounding environment!

Way cool!
Might I suggest some holes in the fabric surface'?

Hello my modeling comrades.
Thank you for your comments, they push me foeward.
I have made some progress,
first I primed the wings and sanded a bit of the white primer to show some stitching and other details.
(https://abload.de/img/43losvt.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=43losvt.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/4320usps.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=4320usps.jpg)
After that I sprayed the underside with Tamiya deck tan, applied the crosses and mottled an enamel based wash on it.
(https://abload.de/img/442ms9c.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=442ms9c.jpg)

(https://abload.de/img/48ztsec.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=48ztsec.jpg)
Next, I put the decals on the wings and sanded them down a bit to simulate the worn effect.

(https://abload.de/img/46aqsy7.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=46aqsy7.jpg)
In the next step I made a fading with some oil paint dots and applied different pigments
(https://abload.de/img/50v8szo.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=50v8szo.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/518js7a.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=518js7a.jpg)

(https://abload.de/img/54massg.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=54massg.jpg)
Now I started to build some wood walkway from balsa, heavily worked with a steel brush.
(https://abload.de/img/55oks5q.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=55oks5q.jpg)
First step was to brush it with Tamiya XF19

(https://abload.de/img/57q3sy4.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=57q3sy4.jpg)
then a heavy dark wash was applied to the previously ,with white spirit moistured wood.

(https://abload.de/img/59wdso5.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=59wdso5.jpg)
After one day I drybrushed the whole thing with white
(https://abload.de/img/60tesyl.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=60tesyl.jpg)
now I applied some nearly dried colours to make it more interesting.
(https://abload.de/img/613csv4.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=613csv4.jpg)
Then I applied some green algae on the wood.

in the end there will be a tramp sitting on the wing with a fishing rod in his hands.

(https://abload.de/img/73h6sax.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=73h6sax.jpg)
Hope you enjoy my insanity, but there will come up a lot more gimmiks on and below both wings.
Bye,
Manni
-
Manny, your insanity is a pleasure to watch and enjoy. Great project with great results due to your "insanity". ;D
-
I don't know how to adequately state my amazement at what you have done and are doing! The techniques you are using on the airframe, wood, and everything else are amazing.
RAGIII
-
wooof, Manni, the weathered wood looks awesome! And the tramp must be much more courageous than many highly decorated generals (who would have expected that... ;)) to take his seat on such a rotten airplane...
Andreas
-
Wow!! That looks amazing...its a shame that they let that happen to such a neat airplane. Its like finding a rusted out 1932 roadster in a barn and the farmer will sell it to you for $100.
-
Lost for words Manni. This is artistry combined with the highest level of modelling skill. If this is insanity, could you please share a little with me?
Stephen.
-
Wow! This is an amazing way to portray an aircraft in different circumstances. Very nice.
I really like what you did with sandpaper on the stitching and raised areas. Something I might try later.
Love it!
Gaz

I really enjoy the general idea and the outcome ;D
Keep on watching..

Hi my friends.
Thank you for your welcome comments.
I have made some progress so far. I have started to errect the forgotten abandoned wharf to be able to make the last touches on my Hansa.
Here the different steps and a little tutorial to make poles overgrown with algae and mussles:
The baseplate (40X40 cm/16X16 inch). The poles are just put into place, to proof if everyting looks good. They are attached to the base with blutack.
(https://abload.de/img/2wzprx.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=2wzprx.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/38br89.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=38br89.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/4hrqqy.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=4hrqqy.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/5bxoi7.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=5bxoi7.jpg)
In the rear area is still a quay wall missing, but that comes later.
The bridge will be made of different balsa wood profiles.
So that the wood grain also corresponds to the old, washed-out and weather-exposed environment, the wood is stressed with a steel brush with shortened bristles and smoothed with steel wool.
(https://abload.de/img/6naogh.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=6naogh.jpg)
The whole thing is worked on until you are satisfied with the result.
(https://abload.de/img/78src9.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=78src9.jpg)
Then the wood is painted gray and given a brown washing.
(https://abload.de/img/7a1lpoj.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=7a1lpoj.jpg)
Now I have marked with tape the maximum water level at high tide.
(https://abload.de/img/8u6o8m.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=8u6o8m.jpg)
I put classic hot glue one side.
(https://abload.de/img/99jp1s.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=99jp1s.jpg)
Now I first sprinkle the middle section with sesame seeds and then the upper and lower sections with strained thyme.

(https://abload.de/img/12huo1w.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=12huo1w.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/11jzoll.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=11jzoll.jpg)
Then the growth is brushed nice dark green.
(https://abload.de/img/13n2ooh.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=13n2ooh.jpg)
After sufficient drying, the depths are emphasized with a dark wash.
(https://abload.de/img/141jpsh.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=141jpsh.jpg)
The individual seeds are coarsely colored with a brush and XF17. Here you can still see the dark green, which looks like an algea coating.
(https://abload.de/img/15a1rbt.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=15a1rbt.jpg)
The pearly spots are now painted with a very fine brush. For this I use XF2
(https://abload.de/img/16u3ocj.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=16u3ocj.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/17fwo78.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=17fwo78.jpg)
Now the upper area is treated. Directly above the vegetation the still wet pole is painted with a mixture of dark green and black.
Then comes some AK simey grime to simulate algae growth.
The vegetation can still be emphasized with a bit of light green.
(https://abload.de/img/184orxf.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=184orxf.jpg)
Here and there you can apply previously light green-colored hemp fibers as filamentous algae.
(https://abload.de/img/19zloxz.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=19zloxz.jpg)
At the end, the lower part is stained with the dark green-black mixture. After this, the pile and the shells are brushed with gloss lacquer.
(https://abload.de/img/20zyo3g.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=20zyo3g.jpg)
The next update will take some time, because I want to finish the entire bridge first.

WOW Manni! That is awesome to say the least Thanks for the great tutorial!
RAGIII

Incredible, Manni! A true masterpiece. And a way to deal with all that healthy food stuff my wife brings home from time to time...
Andreas
-
Wow Manni, what can I say but thanks for showing us your technique(s).
-
Manni,
That's very impressive work and most informative, those mussels look ready for the pot ....... little touch of garlic, some chopped onion and some white wine........ :P ;) !!
Seriously this project of yours has turned into a real piece of fine art and your skills at replicating natural objects and effects are remarkable. This is spectacular modelling, keep those updates coming!
Cheers,

What a mess!

Hello my dear friends.
Thank you for all the kind comments regarding my work!!!! :)
A lot of time went by since my last update since I had a little trouble with my first attempt with the water.
The resin did not cure the way it should do and bubbles accured inside and made it look very strange.
(https://abload.de/img/21jms7k.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=21jms7k.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/22sis2a.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=22sis2a.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/23passy.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=23passy.jpg)
Now I decided to make everything new and much better. I wanted to have more motion in the waves. So I modeled nice waves with modeling clay. After curing I brushed a rich layer of glossy varnish over it.
(https://abload.de/img/248is5u.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=248is5u.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/25rysm9.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=25rysm9.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/28gcse4.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=28gcse4.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/30des5a.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=30des5a.jpg)
Then I pured moulding silicone over it to make a negative mould for my waves.
Now I could fill my new type of resin (coloured green and blue) into the mould. after a week of curing I demoulded the resin waves.
(https://abload.de/img/31zxs6a.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=31zxs6a.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/32jysws.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=32jysws.jpg)
With AK's snow and snow sprinkles I imitated the white crests of the waves.
(https://abload.de/img/36a4asey.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=36a4asey.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/34arsps.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=34arsps.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/355ssmj.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=355ssmj.jpg)
With syntetic cotton and Vallejo's acrylic water I added some more spume. (Here is still a lot of work to do to let the water look more glossy and the spume more realistic. An update will come)
(https://abload.de/img/368ysow.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=368ysow.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/37rasw9.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=37rasw9.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/382csyr.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=382csyr.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/3909sto.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=3909sto.jpg)
Now it was time to start the work on the brickwall of the wharf.
For this I took a piece of balsa board and glued clay bricks from Juveela piece by piece onto it.
(https://abload.de/img/40aysub.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=40aysub.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/4103sch.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=4103sch.jpg)
I crushed some of the bricks to make it look more realistic.
(https://abload.de/img/426hsil.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=426hsil.jpg)
With plaster and pigments I grouted the wall.
(https://abload.de/img/43q9sev.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=43q9sev.jpg)
(https://abload.de/img/445hse5.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=445hse5.jpg)
Now I started the weathering with different green and brown washings and started to plant some moss and grasses on the wall.
(https://abload.de/img/4638s1s.jpg) (http://abload.de/image.php?img=4638s1s.jpg)

Terrific!

I haven't checked on this build for a while, it's truly stunning. And your base/sea work is amazing as well. Thanks for sharing how you do everything, it will be both inspirational and helpful.
-
Ditto all the above !
Ed
-
As usual I am late to the party!
Thank you so much for showing us one of your attempts that did not work. Currently I am struggling with my build - nothing seems to be going right at the moment and I think that it is all my fault/incompetence. To see someone with your skill and talents having to do something again is most re-assuring - and helpful too. It gives those of us with lesser abilities the encouragement to keep trying - the results of your efforts are truly inspirational.
To comment on any specific detail would not be appropriate - but I cannot find words adequate to express my appreciation of your work. Outstandingly marvellous will have to do!
Stephen.

Bravissimo, Manni! It‘s always a pleasure to See your excellent modeling!

It makes me want to eat mussels...
Very impressive and full of good ideas.

Manni, wow. Your diorama and weathering skills warrant a book. I live close by the ocean and those mussels are ripe and ready! The seaweed, algae, bricks, wood, all of it. Regards Pete in RI
-
Wow, thank you, my friends for the very welcome feedback.
After some vacation and too much heat, here comes a small mini update.
With the wire twisting method and some green stuff I created a small crippled tree (birch). The smallest branches were made of natural twigs.
(http://fs1.directupload.net/images/180807/fvehaypt.jpg) (http://www.directupload.net)
Leaves were punched from real leaves and glued on.
(http://fs1.directupload.net/images/180807/shew4rh2.jpg) (http://www.directupload.net)
Later the tree gets behind a stake.
(http://fs1.directupload.net/images/180807/zquuha5g.jpg) (http://www.directupload.net)
Above the brick wall a concrete collar is used, this was painted in various shades of grey and brown and then chipped with green and black.
I bent a ladder out of wire.
(http://fs5.directupload.net/images/180807/i7klh69a.jpg) (http://www.directupload.net)
Now I applied pigments and with a nice yellow irregular color to create a flaked impression.
(http://fs1.directupload.net/images/180807/2pp9x3hm.jpg) (http://www.directupload.net)
Now here and there some grasses (lower part is plumber-hemp, upper part are the tips of wheat ears) as well as some dirt and moss were used.
(http://fs5.directupload.net/images/180807/v3x5kc7h.jpg) (http://www.directupload.net)

That looks incredibly real and alive, Manni.
Explicit in the sixth picture you have the feeling to hear and smell the salt water of the surfing waves.
Very convincing and perfectly executed work.
Bravo
Bravo!

Manni,
I'm at risk of repeating myself, but ........
Your detailing is extraordinary; as Bertl, Pete, and Filip point out your background has come alive and your techniques are worthy of a book! This is an exceptional piece of work and I am in absolute awe of your skills as illustrated here.

Nothing to add to that - I am equally speechless.
Please would you follow the suggestion and write a book, then we lesser mortals (artists) might be able to follow where you lead.

Hello folks,
Thank you a lot for your very kind words. This is always overwhelming.
I did a lot of hard work on my project here. The bridge was planked, aged and covered with moss. The airplane was pinned with the bridge. Here you can see the result so far.

under the starboard wing will be the dwelling of the old pilot. For this there will be some more windows, tarpaulins and corrugated iron. I scrach built the windows completely, engraved the wood grain with the tip of the craft knife, and painted them with different shades of blue.

Superb Manni, your work leaves me breathless.

Simply lost for woords. That is modelling as I would like to be able to do - but sadly cannot. It makes me appreciate your skills all the more.
Stephen.

Manni,
Each of your individual components is a model in it's own right, and without exception absolutely beautifully crafted. The composite of all of them is truly a work of art, a magnificent production indicative of your exceptional modelling skills. You can be very proud of this work, that of an artist quite honestly!
Cheers,

Hi Manni,
I like to do small detail work on my models but this model display is just crazy!!!
Having just completed the Hansa-Brandenburg I'm guessing this model is huge!!
Way to go,
Mike

That one at last puts you next into the row of P. O. Lund and all those other masters in diorama building. No doubt there will be a "collected works" book on your dios, starting with the Gotha and ending here. And I will be in the queue to buy one!

That is superb modelling Manni! I am in awe of the level of detail and quality in your display. Just world class quality!

Spectacular. So much life-like... I am amazed.

Hello my friends,
Many thanks for the positive feedback.
I am always very happy about it. That always gives you new motivation.
My construction went slowly but steadily forward. Here are the next steps:
I made corrugated iron out of the sheet metal of empty tubes for the roof of the dwelling and brushed it in different brown and red tones. After a little chipping and the one or other washing I was satisfied with the result.
(https://i.ibb.co/nCwLPXp/75.jpg) (https://ibb.co/jR8rJCt)
(https://i.ibb.co/wcwBZYr/76.jpg) (https://ibb.co/7kRjxbN)
(https://i.ibb.co/LxYqqJD/77.jpg) (https://ibb.co/Byc77rH)
Bookshelf and windows were still provided with cobwebs.
(https://i.ibb.co/fHSzT8T/78.jpg) (https://ibb.co/VTNckHk)
(https://i.ibb.co/Nn4jVtN/79.jpg) (https://ibb.co/G3h2xnM)
(https://i.ibb.co/MSKKt1z/80.jpg) (https://ibb.co/pwNNMKH)
The dwelling was equipped with mattress, blanket, suitcases, flag and oven. Afterwards some dirt was attached.
(https://i.ibb.co/MDB1SSN/81.jpg) (https://ibb.co/7JkpCCy)
(https://i.ibb.co/r75p9MN/82.jpg) (https://ibb.co/7YrphVL)

(https://i.ibb.co/YX4Cn70/84.jpg) (https://ibb.co/C6pcC5P)
Healthy food was provided in the form of a tomato plant.
(https://i.ibb.co/ZSx5TZX/86.jpg) (https://ibb.co/YXhmjrQ)
(https://i.ibb.co/PMLFM6w/87.jpg) (https://ibb.co/qCS7Crk)
The shelter is now ready. A few small details and plants have been added here and there.
(https://i.ibb.co/qgQLNw8/88.jpg) (https://ibb.co/t2rwq56)
(https://i.ibb.co/Lxs8Mwz/89.jpg) (https://ibb.co/D9jtNXD)

(https://i.ibb.co/dWWKY7B/93.jpg) (https://ibb.co/smm3Ytj)
I made the tree using the wire twisting method and then painted it with 2-component spatula from the car body sector.
The now hardened tree was then painted with grey and then washed in brown.
(https://i.ibb.co/Pc2RvhS/94.jpg) (https://ibb.co/X7n9rsw)
afterwards I have applied green moss and with the help of a pipette different green tones dripped on.
(https://i.ibb.co/8xRWVvL/95.jpg) (https://ibb.co/n1VHSdN)
Here and there a few highlights were set and simulated with Tamiya XF76 lichens.
(https://i.ibb.co/zPcMt6M/96.jpg) (https://ibb.co/nQ2GKPG)
I brushed the PE leaves of Eduard in different green, brown, yellow and red tones. The branch was brushed with a fine brush by hand.
(https://i.ibb.co/PN0NgK4/97.jpg) (https://ibb.co/JKgKHV2)
Individually or in segments the leaves and branches are glued to the tree model.
(https://i.ibb.co/dP9WL4W/98.jpg) (https://ibb.co/VgyjQYj)
(https://i.ibb.co/47GK1jG/99.jpg) (https://ibb.co/2yQWZjQ)
(https://i.ibb.co/WyCBMzC/100.jpg) (https://ibb.co/XsHFK5H)
That's it, now the tree has to be finished and then the old concrete plates are added. Oh yes... the figures are still missing...
I'll see you soon,
Manni
-
Imagining this scene in the "real" reality is like listening to a story, or reading a book about the life of the man who lives beneath th the wings... really touching...
Thanks for sharing this mastarpiece Manni!
-
Amazing artistry in this still life scene brought to shining! Jawdropping.
-
Prez has written it....amazing artistry bringing to life to a still life scene. I am utterly speechless at the delicacy of all of those details - such patience and real skill. What an amazing model.
Stephen.

It’s hard to find any superlatives that fit for this wonderful piece of art, Manni. The more I look at it the more I remember the paintings of Spitzweg, his „poor poet“ for example. I can hardly wait to see your diorama finished!

Thank you very much for this overwhelming encouragement! Thank you all!
Now I owe you once again a small update.
First I have finished the tree. That was a really nice, creative work.
(https://i.ibb.co/SJ1zZXN/101.jpg) (https://ibb.co/d73RH0B)
Here is a general view of the scene.
(https://i.ibb.co/9wNsZr9/102.jpg) (https://ibb.co/f824DxY)
The old pilot was finished next. A few small retouches will take place later.
(https://i.ibb.co/dBfKSs3/103.jpg) (https://ibb.co/WnHKQNd)
(https://i.ibb.co/W2sphYG/104.jpg) (https://ibb.co/0GQV7dm)
Now I have weathered the propeller and provided the brass edges with verdigris.
(https://i.ibb.co/TMYB5sb/105.jpg) (https://ibb.co/60rR5k1)
I also painted a seal with a young seal with the airbrush, acrylic and oil paints.
(https://i.ibb.co/mG8JBPc/106.jpg) (https://ibb.co/wRsyL2z)
(https://i.ibb.co/VtRGjNk/107.jpg) (https://ibb.co/56m3M9J)
Now some seabirds and the area behind the airplane/ tree are missing, then the project is finished.
Greetings,

Thank you all for the kind comments!
@Bughunter: No, Frank the prop is the original one, just plastic scratched with a hardened needle. The tips are polished with AK true metal wax and then I have added the patina using Revells light blue what actually looks a bit more mint. After this I just dabbed a highly dilluted black over the tips and that's it. The wood was drawn directly on the light grey Alclad primer with Farber's Pitt Artist pens in various grey tones.

I keep dreaming while looking at your masterpiece!!!!

We often write that modellers have produced gems: in this case I think that you have produced the crown jewels! This is truly a masterpiece showing a combination of modelling skill, craftsmanship and art. If I had only a fraction of the talents that you posess I would be a very happy man!

Your skills in modelling a large variety of subjects - aircraft, autos, figures, landscapes, etc. seems to know no bounds. Puts you in a rare class of modelers that can build anything well. Keep posting stuff!

Thank you very much for your feedback and tips as well as the constructive encouragement.
The next project is already in the starting blocks.
