Title: H-maskine in 1/72nd from Kombe Models in Denmark
Post by: NinetythirdLiberator on September 10, 2017, 03:02:14 PM
Hi all,

It's been a while since I posted a project and I thought I'd try a very obscure Danish machine that looks like someone smashed a SPAD with an early Albatros two seater and came up with it all in July 1918!  It was so obscure that it really didn't have a name...rather it was called "H" and "maskine" which just means army (I think).  It's only my second resin kit ever so it should be a hoot.

Here is the box:

And the very comprehensive kit parts with lots of illustrations and basic but sound directions.  Lots of Danish and English directions and pictures of the kit being put together.

The resin is really lovely and thin at some points (as you see here!):

Let's all see how she goes together.

Cheers and thanks for looking,
Dan

Looking forward to seeing how this model turns out Dan, resin is not my favorite but so far I have built 5 resin kits.

Looks like a nice kit of a very interesting subject - fresh air from all the Albatrosen!

I think I recall from watching a superb Danish film about bicycle troops at the outbreak of WW2 (called 9th April), well worth catching BTW - that the Danish word for Army is something like Haer, so presumably the name H-maskine just stands for Army Machine!

I'll watch your refreshing build with great interest.

Wow Dan, interesting looking bird (I had never seen it before) and your description of it makes sense.  Looking forward to your progress.

Thanks, everyone.  I'll try and do this one justice.

I just sawed off the main parts and they look really nice.  The fit so far is almost like Tamiya.  There are even large pins in the back for alignment! (of course I did end up taking those off for some tiny adjustments).  The bottom wing snaps in with little fuss and looks straight and true.

And here are all the main parts ready for more work.  I only separated the control surfaces for later posing.  There are only a couple of sink marks in the leading edge of the wings and two small blemishes near the outside rear cockpit but these will be easily fillable.  The only warped parts are the stab which is so thin and nice but some warm water and a clamp will be in order.

Can't wait to start on the engine and interior!

Cheers,
Dan

Thanks, Bud and Rick...so far, things are still going well!

I detailed the engine a bit with some tiny rods on the valve heads and put the engine in.  Looks to sit ok with a tad of trimming.

I've since painted it all grey and will wash with some black soon then detail paint.  The cockpits are next!

Cheers and thanks for looking,
Dan

One of the things that I really like about this forum is that very little known types are modelled by someone. This is no exception and inn the hands of someone like you this is going to be another winner. Will follow with interest.

Thanks so much, Des and Stephen!  I hope to do it justice.

I got a bit more done!  Not much is seen or known or documented about the interior but I'll add a few more basics to the rear pit to fill up the hole as well.

No shot of the closure.  It was no fuss.  I'll fill and sand seams tomorrow.

Cheers,
Dan

Thanks, guys.  I'd never heard of it before either.  I was in Denmark and a friend took me to the local HS and so I tried to buy all Danish airplanes!
This is fun.

Last night, I got the general scheme down with aluminum for the metal parts at the nose and buff, brown oils and an overcoat of clear orange for the prominent wood parts around the offices.  Looks pretty neat so far!

It's hard to tell in the photos, but the majority of the machine will be a light grey with a tad of weathering and interior detail accents to break it up.

Thanks for looking!

Dan

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement!  ;D

I added the tails and gave them a shot of light grey and then added the tail decals.  These Danish planes were cool in where they put their markings.  The decals worked great and ended up snuggling nicely with some setting solution.  They slid on easily, didn't tear and were easy to move around too.  Lovely.

Put them on the bottom wings as well.  Now I'll paint up the top wing and start rib taping.

Cheers,
Dan
