Howdy folks,
Firstly, thanks to Des for allowing me to sign up and post this announcement.
Some of you will recognise me as the guy who runs Large Scale Planes (LSP), but earlier this year I launched my own digital publishing venture, called KLP Publishing. Our first book, Building Brick's Sabre in 1/32 Scale (https://www.klp.com.au/product/building-bricks-sabre-in-132-scale/), launched in mid-July.
Now I'm pleased to announce the first title in our Build Guide Series, entitled Building the Wingnut Wings AEG G.IV Late in 1/32 Scale:
Not only does it feature a detailed step-by-step guide to how Karim produced his fabulous model, but also dedicated tutorials on biplane rigging, and painting wooden propellors. Also included will be a set of walkaround photos featuring the Mercedes D.IVa engine located at the Royal Museum of the Army, in Brussels, Belgium.
And a couple of teaser images:

Keep an eye out on the website (https://www.klp.com.au/), or our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/klppublishing/), for more information about this book, which I'll bring you as soon as it's to hand.

A very hale and hearty welcome, Kevin. A very sincere wow is in order as well...bring it on! -M
-
Thanks for the welcome Doug, and the kind words!
Kev
-
Excellent! thank you Kevin, I followed Karims build on LSP, and have grabbed an AEG Late in the WNW sale. Great timing ! Regards, Pete in RI.
-
Thanks, Pete. The AEG book is still a work in progress, with plenty more to be done before it's ready, so I hope we don't keep you waiting!
Kev

It's great to see you here, Kev!!
Good luck with this and future publications ;)

Kev, I wish you every success with the KLP Publishing venture. The teaser photos suggest a work of very high quality. Do you have any ideas yet as to the price
The paradox is that whilst I am pretty unlikely ever to buy the WNW's AEG, it is quite likely that I will buy your build guide.
Best wishes

Thanks, Nigel. The price will be AU$15 (that's 15 Australian dollars, for everyone north of the border, or roughly US$12 at current exchange rates). I just need to reiterate, though, that this will be a digital publication (an eBook in PDF format), rather than a physical book. I'd hate for someone to buy the book and misunderstand what it is they've paid for. I appreciate that not everybody likes eBooks, but they do have their advantages, and it's those advantages that I'm trying to make the most of (no arbitrary limit on page count, large-format images, increased font sizes to cater for ageing eyes, among other things).
Cheers,
Kev

I have the AEG in my stash so the ebook will be a must for me especially if it is going to be a benefit for my "old " eyes.

Thanks, Des. The decision to make the fonts larger than traditionally found in print (including those magazines that are converted to digital for online distribution) was based on the experience I'm having with my own deteriorating eyesight, but also the desire to produce something that doesn't require you to zoom in all the time to get the most out of it. I love reading modelling magazines on my iPad (the main way I do it these days), but get annoyed at having to pinch-and-zoom all the time to see the photos clearly, or read the text comfortably.
Kev

Thanks, Kev. The price sounds excellent value to me. I had picked up that it would be a digital publication and will add it to a small, but growing collection of similar works.
Best wishes

Thanks again, Nigel. Glad to have your support. I wish I could give you a firm publication date, but it's still a work in progress, and I don't even have a final page count at this stage. It's likely to be north of 100, though (the Sabre book clocks in at 105 pages).
Cheers,
Kev

This looks very promising. I'm not yet at the point of needing reading glasses but I am glad for the large font for other reasons. I can position the tablet a bit further from my work area. Also, a larger font removes the temptation to get wordy, too many words will drown the pictures. You'll look at it and say, that ain't right.

Thanks for your interest, Jeff. The 'wordiness' of each title is largely down to the individual author, but my role as editor/publisher is to make each as concise as possible. One of the nice things about going digital is that there's no arbitrary limit on the page count, so if one build takes 100 pages to describe, and the next one requires 200, it's no problem.

Having just succumbed to temptation ::) ::) and ordered a damaged AEG (late) from WNW I shall be requiring all the help I can muster Kev and look forward to acquiring a digital copy :)

Thanks, Gilly. Karim says it's a terrific kit, but he did make a few minor improvements. I've got the 'early' kit myself, and appreciate how daunting it is!
Kev
-
I just wanted to let everyone know that after a couple of minor (but worthwhile) delays, I'm close to wrapping this one up, and should have it ready to launch in the next few days. Along with Karim's excellent build of the Wingnut Wings kit, there also extensive tutorials on painting wooden props (27 pages!), and rigging (12 pages). There's a pair of bonus chapters featuring the Mercedes D.IVa engine, too!
Kev
-
I am really looking forward to the release and am planning to buy a copy. I watched Karim's build on LSP, which was incredibly impressive. Could really use some help with painting propellers and rigging. Ended up with both an AEG early and late from the distressed kit sale.
Dave
-
Cheers, Dave. The book currently tops out at 167 pages, so there's a good deal of information in there! The prop tutorial is really 4 mini-tutorials, as Karim describes the 4 main methods he uses to create wood-grain effects on props. With the rigging tutorial, he focusses on the main technique he used to rig the AEG. (We're contemplating developing an entire publication dedicated to rigging techniques, which would be much more expansive, and much more comprehensive.)
Hopefully I'll have a launch announcement for you guys soon. Let me leave you with a teaser:

OK, I'm pleased to finally be able to announce that this one is now available!
Building the Wingnut Wings AEG G.IV Late in 1/32 Scale (https://www.klp.com.au/product/building-the-wingnut-wings-aeg-g-iv-late-in-132-scale/)
The price is $15 AUD (Australian dollars), and the product page contains some additional sample pages to try before you buy.
Cheers,
Kev

This is great news. I had earlier "passed" on this Kit however decided to take advantage of the damaged goods discount in the recent sale with , as it turned out, excellent return. I've examined the survivor, 574/18, at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa on several occasions over the years (last as recently as three weeks ago) and look forward to tackling this project. From what I've seen here this E-Book will be a great asset to have available....... thanks for your efforts Kev, my order will follow later today!
Cheers,
Lance

Thanks, Lance! It's selling very well so far, and feedback has been great. Thanks to everyone who has purchased it so far, and I hope you all find it useful.

An excellent book Kevin, I read it last night and was in awe of the wonderful photos, this is a must have book for anyone wanting to build the AEG but it is also extremely useful for learning painting and weathering techniques which can be applied to any aircraft build, I highly recommend this book and will be using it as a reference for years to come.

Thanks for your generous feedback, Des! Much appreciated.

What an absolutely brillant tutorial! The author uses all of the cottage industries articles which we are growing accustomed to to good effect and shows techniques on how to make the most of them. The most eyecatching gadget is a Silhouette plotter/cutter to make you own masks. With the demise of the ALPS printer this is,IMHO, the solution to go to to transfer an image into an mask. i've ordered one immediately

I down loaded and read through mine this morning, very impressive! I agree with Janh and Des, great information, better photos and well laid out. This is a real gem and I'll be making good use of it in very short order as my Kit is inevitably next in the queue for the work bench! Thanks Kev, I consider this great value for the $!

Many thanks to all of you who purchased the book! This one is already outselling the previous Birddog book, and looks set to overtake the Sabre book at some point, too. This is very gratifying, as is the really awesome feedback you guys have given the book. Karim and I are planning further collaborations, so stay tuned to the website (https://www.klp.com.au/) or Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/klppublishing/) for more news and announcements.
