After a short rest (I am resting by making modern fighter jets :D )
I open a new workshop topic. Pfalz D. XII
I'm thinking of doing it in this painting scheme:
At the beginning I started doing engine: Daimler-Mercedes D.IIIau
Original part...

...and my amendments :

In this way, I did a tap:

Still ahead of me a few hours working on the engine ;)

Best regards .

Great start on the engine Jacek, will follow closely.
-
Incredible work on the engine. I'm looking forward to watching your build. I'm working on the same model, but at a very different place in terms of skill set and comfort making modifications.
Dave
-
Very nicely done so far Jacek, I will be following your build closely.
Des.

Looks like another one of your super detailed masterpieces underway Jacek, great start! One of my most enjoyed of the Wingnut Wings Kits, I look forward to following this Build Log.
Cheers,
Lance

Looking good. Like Lance, one of my favorite German A/C and favorite WNW kits to build. Looking to see how you do the engine. Are you going to leave some panels off to expose your work?
-
Are you going to leave some panels off to expose your work?
I think so, it depends on how the engine looks ;)
-
Very nice. I just pulled this out of the stash on Sunday. Looking forward to seeing more. Its inspiring so far.
James

Build it James, you'll be glad you did. It's a wonderful kit.

Excellent added details! Looking forward to the next update!

Thank you all for your kind words.
Work on the engine continues, a few details.
At the beginning I painted parts on the black glossy:

Electric wires for spark plug:

Hi Jacek - beautiful work! where did you find small enough diameter wire for the spark plugs?
thanks!
Dave

Great start on the Pfalz. I love the painting of the engine.

Looking fantastic! I also like the engine painting. The wiring harness will be very realistic once installed on the engine!!

Hi Jacek
One day very soon I'll tackle the wiring and other up scale detailing on an engine like you are. What you are doing is an incentive.
I also like that your distributor cap is in a reddish brown. Without actually wiring the engine on my Fokker DVII, I always think of the distributor caps in this colour and did the same for my engine. For me it is the "colour" of Bakelite but I derive that only from working on old cars and with no knowledge of how the caps were coloured on WW1 planes.
I sure look forward to your progress.
Best, Alistair

Wires find everywhere:
piece of antenna cable
speaker coils
old AM antennas on the radio

I did spark plugs, I used a 0.5mm medical needle for this and copper wire.

amazing work on the engine. thanks so much for showing the source of your spark plug wires. I spent a while trying to find some around the house. The stuff in my garage (all computer related) went small, but not that small. Haven't had an AM radio in a while.
Dave

Will you be putting aviation spirit into this engine and then running it up to make sure that it works properly before you put it into the model airframe?
Simply amazing modelling.

thanks!

The engine looks the business alright. The number in front, the spark plug leads and red stripes, all look very nice and outstandingly (Is that a word?) done! Looking forward to seeing how you are going to display this.

Unpleasantly, but you probably will not see anything :-\

Brilliant - a new reference for me and a gold standard for any engine. Have to hunt out some antenna wire now...

Beautifully done so far.

Beautiful work, and I really appreciate your answering my questions. I'm at a similar place on my build of the same model.
How did you drill the holes for the rudder and stabilizer rigging? I tried with my smallest bit (.3 mm) and given that the plastic piece is only around .5mm, it was really hard to drill centrally, and the remaining plastic ring was really thin. I ended up cheating and gluing the line behind the attachment and not through it. What size bit did you use, and was it any special kind?
thanks!

What size bit did you use, and was it any special kind?
thanks!
Dave
I did not use anything special, only a 0.3 drill.
