You may know this as I'm late to this party. From what I can tell, William Thaw of the Lafayette Escadrille was the nephew of Harry Kendall Shaw. Harry was tried for the murder of Stanford White which led to the "trial of the century". Have I got this right? The whole story is extremely interesting and provides some insight into what was going on in the pre-war world.
