Title: Austro-Daimler Aeroplan engine 120 h.p., WMM 1/16
Post by: Bughunter on June 02, 2017, 05:15:20 AM
And now, after posting a damn small 1/72 Fokker the total opposite! Something completely different, a model in 1/16.
Austro-Daimler Aeroplan engine 120 h.p.
2014 there was a contest in the german modellboard.net, a anonymous build within six month, where the model have to be shown on a beer mat. That was the only rule.
The kit is a resin kit with PE and brass of the "Wiener Modellbau Manufaktur" (wmm.at) from Vienna,
the engine is a austrian engine developed in Vienna or nearby (Wiener Neustadt) by Ferdinand Porsche,
was used in the Etrich Taube A.II (Igo Etrich lived in Vienna),
is the beer mat from Vienna (translation "What's moving Vienna").
Finally the users are voted this model to the first place! I'm deeply grateful to my friends of modellboard.
I was really surprised, because I bought this model before on a fair from the manufacturer, then I was going to a different booth to buy my first Alclads - so it was planned as Alclad training model. Later I idea of the contest came up and I located the model in my stash and checked the size - you know the rest of the story. I thought about posting it here, since it is a result of a contest of a different forum and not a aircraft, but it is my model and shows an old aircraft engine, so it should match the range here.

Thanks for reading, I hope you will like that engine too!
Frank

Congratulations on a well deserved win: an outstanding model but you are also a skilled craftsman judging by the parts that you have made yourself. Thanks for showing such a spectacular piece of work.

I'm absolutely amazed my friend. If you had hadn't stated a scale I could have easily mistaken this gem as the real article. My congratulations for you so well earned win my friend. I'm more than pleased to have a Master Craftsman such as you with us. Well Done!

How did you make the brass rocker arms? CNC mill?

Thanks,

Steve, the six pushrods and the six lower bearing bushes (socket of the pushrods) were part of the kit. And yes, they seems to be CNC milled.

Meh...I think you got the oil stain slightly off and the color of the springs isn't sooty enough... ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Geez...that is one beautiful engine.  The only question is, does it run!!!

Well done, Sir!

The answer to the usual questions:
1. No, the beer mate is not made from MDF (medium density fiberboard)
2. No, it is not a real engine. it is smaller.
3. It  does not run.

 ;) ;D

Cheers,
Frank

Thank you very much, Edgar!
In principle: why not?
But in real - I don't think so. It was a nice addition in my glass cabinet to my other 1/48 models, regarding size and subject point of view. But it is the only engine from WMM, and on the other hand I have really enough models to build in my stash, your Dolphin, Caudron :D and many nice Eduard kits - and limited time for modeling. Even with my actual rate of 6 models per year (all shown recently here) I'm busy for years 8)

Cheers,
Frank
