Title: Santos-Dumont Demoiselle 1908, AJP MAQUETTES 1/48
Post by: Bughunter on May 31, 2017, 05:04:29 AM
Today I like to show something according to rule 12a, it is really a pre WW1 aircraft:
Santos-Dumont Demoiselle 1908
It was the first sports aircraft of the world produced in small batch. For more information please see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santos-Dumont_Demoiselle

This model was created from a kit of the french company AJP MAQUETTES in my prefered scale 1/48. The kit contains mostly PE, piano wires, a metal airscrew and paper for covering. And again I scratch built a lot of details, like engine and fuel tank, made here my first wooden airscrew and used Gaspatch turnbuckles.

I had a lot of fun in this project. Really pitty, that many other of the old struts in 1/48 of this company are too big for my cabinet :'(

Let's see if you are flashed by this model :)
Frank

The engine completely made from scratch on my lathe (after I was unhappy with the result of the PE kit parts):

This is my kind of aeroplane, I love the pre war types. You have done a superb job with this build, the engine is excellent and the rigging is extremely well done.

That is a brilliant build of one of the early types. There were many variations on the basic design as it was intended to be a do-it-yourself  aircraft: you have made an excellent representation. The translucent wings are very convincing and the engine and fuel tank are the cherry on the icing.

Stephen.

I'm not sure it's a model. I think it might be the real thing with a giant coin posed next to it!

Brilliant work.

Cheers
