Here's my completed project for the Aircraft Diorama Group Build. The Build Log is at:
http://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=7714.0
This is my first attempt at a Diorama and, as I've stated in the Build Log, is admittedly more an enhanced Display Base then a true Diorama! The aircraft was completed with the Pheon Decal set, Aviattic "Naval Hex" Lozenge Decals, and an added Gas Patch Parabellum Gun in the Observer's cockpit. Various After market PE Tools were used, the refuelling Drum is an Aviattic Small German version, and the trestle work table and step ladder are scratch Built. The Display Base is finished with a Cobblestone Sheet product, planking from popsicle sticks, and some scrounged rail tracks to represent the Jetty surface in front of the Hangars at the Zeebrugge Seaplane Base in 1917.
First, the aircraft as completed;

The Base as completed:

.......and in no particular order here's the completed Diorama Scene:

And this one is now on the Display Shelf. A great Kit and a fun project, hope you like it.

Very nice, Lance. All those side bits add a lot of life to the model, which is a fine one in its own, too. Congratulations!
-
You have turned a very fine model - something to be proud of in its own right, into a unique mini-display which has a huge amount of interest. Everything is extremely well presented - I especially like the tools and the trestle table. The whole mini scene looks extremely realistic. Well up to the normal very high standard that we know you present with all of your models.
Stephen.

This is very cool Lance. Love the plane, but the added little dio makes it very special. Well done!

Simply gorgeous, Lance! The work you've done on the W.12 is first rate and the vignette really sets it of nicely! I love it! I can only hope mine will turn out half as fine.

Very nice Lance. (Insert big thumbs up icon here)! :)
Your attention to detail and subtle weathering looks great, as does your lozenge wing rib effect.
A beautiful model all round.
To me it is an excellent diorama of that small scale, yet vital activity enacted millions of times since aviation began, the before flight
check and associated minor maintenance. With an absense of human activity and casual positioing of tools and equipment your scene
depicts a peaceful moment in time at odds with the aircraft's impending mission, providing to me a feeling of
"calm before the storm".
Your supporting models are very nicely done and just the right amount to tell your story.
IMHO a very good example of "less is more"!
I like your story line and particularly the comment "the maintenance crew is at the Mess Hall for wurst and beer (lucky devils!)
I hereby suggest you deserve another small largeish scotch yourself ;D
Cheers :)

Ah Lance, a beautimus build indeed! All that is missing is a crane, and in 1/32 !
-
Boggie,
Thanks so much, I am flattered by your comments and for adding even more interpretation to the scene. I like the "calm before the storm" analogy, such moments were common I am certain. I'll take your suggestion on the large(r) Scotch, I really like that part!
28 Juni 14,
