It is lovely, not my cup of tea I don't think, but I'm sure there will be lots of people very excited.
You'd think they'd produce something with lots of schemes and variations to appeal to everyone (Dr.1). You have to hand it to them though, they're certainly unpredictable!
Guy

Hooray!
-
Wow! A Taube. Isn't the Taube what a lot of people were hoping Wingnut Wings would do someday?
-
Wasn't on my "Want List" but I know I'll be getting one. Their security and secrecy amazes me....... :o

Yes! I for one never thought they'd do one; this is incredibly cool news. What an amazing company.

I am happy for all of you Taube fans but sorry it doesn't light my fire like a Strutter or Dolphin would have. I am a pass on purchasing one.

While both the the Dolphin and the Strutter are very high on my most wanted WnW kits so is the Taube... So, very happy now! Might even give the BR Camel a miss because of this. The Ships Camel will find its way into my stash though! (Once it eventually will be released for real)
Cheers!

Dear, great craftmanship, those thin warping ends of the Taube's wings!

Excellent, love the subject. Be ready for some serious rigging. :D

Who would have thought five years back that there would be a 1:32 Taube Kit on the market today? I guess after the Felixstowe anything is possible?! Amazing!

Thank you Wingnut Wings! This is a definite purchase for me. The Camel is a maybe/probably but lower in the queue. Now, I'm sending out vibes for that Fokker F.1 and the Wright Flyer. Might die happy.

Hey, Des, what's your opinion?

Amazing looking model, I thought the Albatros BII was something special but that Taube is a piece of art.
-

Jamie
well the whole wing was translucent so you are going to need to go Trompe l'oeil anyway
-
Awesome :)
I think I saw someone post that another Fokker D.VII is coming out also. An early, but while I know there are different companies I do not know what a early model entails.
James
-
For the numbers lovers, taube is 32 058 and Fokker D VII is 32067
-
My poor wallet , I want all these kits . I need a better job or win the lottery or something. Got so much I need to build as it is though. Hopefully this won't be out for a year at least

Very cool!

I think it's just an excuse to re-box a sold-out kit. The original 'Fok' boxing had the early cowls included.
Yep, I agree. This may go some way to over-riding the smallish production runs they have, just chuck the sprues in another box with some new decals and perhaps a different engine sprue.
Good business for them, and allows them to get the cash to make stuff like the Taube.
-
Are the wheels PE or cast metal? I'm guessing the kit will be quite pricey if it is the latter...has any pricing info been released?

Guessing the wheels are same / similar to those on the Alb B.II -- PE. They build up pretty ok.
Pricing -- no announcements AFAIK, but this was a big plane! And who knows whether they will include linen decals, etc...
My guess is $129...

Etrich Taube.My dream come true.

Thanks Bo.
I also noticed the Camel kits have "shipping now" or something similar attached to their boxes. Has anyone who ordered a kit thru a stockist other than Weta received shipping confirmation yet? I only ask as it seems the kits still can't be ordered from Weta's website and wondered if stocks have arrived to anyone else.

Wow, great news. I hoped that they will build a Taube, now it comes truth.

Pop goes my wallet. Beautiful stuff!
How can I get those past my wife???

Those wings must be.... .010 or .015 thick?

Nope - nobody has stock yet. Best estimate is middle/end of March.
-
Camels are in Stock @ Sprue Bros, along with a few other WNW kits...
-
Nice surprise!
Out of curiosity and knowing pretty much nothing about Taubes (other than nearly all German manufactureres built them patent-free), is a Jeannin Taube much different from an Albatros built one?
-
They are all different - even airframes from the same manufacturer. Fun fun fun!
Right! -- in a sense "Taube" almost denotes a style of airplane, versus an exact pattern. Almost.
Which is one reason why I figured WNW wouldn't touch it with a 25-foot pole. In fact I had started tentatively working on a 1/32 Taube last year for Flugzeugwerke. (just starting collecting research, really.) Glad I didn't sink any more time into that!
It'll be really interesting to see how much variation WNW has kitted...
-
Well, let's hope they take a DFV C.V approach in which you get all sort of extra sprues for all the different factories that built those :)
-
Gorgeous! This is a great surprise! Makes up for so many Camels at Christmas ;D

Lovely Taube, but I still want a WNW Halbi CLII ;D

I'm afraid that rule only applies to French A/C. On Britmodeller they're positing that the flood of Camels is meant to make up the shortfall from the Felixstowes--everyone saw the incredible builds and rushed out to buy . . . the Roden kits. You'd think a Spad XIII would be a license to print money, but Sir Peter remains a Francophobe.

And, what did they get? A Roden kit, most of which likely won't get built either. Yes, I have a Wingnut Wings Felixstowe. It's big, it's complex and will be an extremely satisfying build throughout the months it will require. Each to his or her own.

Not sure that is totally fair...
1. WNW originally stated they did not want to do kits where there is already a decent kit existing and available in 1/32 - given there are existing kits of the N11, N16, N17, N23, N27, N28, Spad 7 and Spad 13 in 1/32.... That said, due to pressure from fans, they did do a Camel, so who knows maybe in the future we will see some of these French subjects but its clear that initially those were not subjects WNW was going to consider....
2. Salmson 2A2....
-
The SPAD XIII by Hobbycraft is a nice kit, but trying to find one is like finding a unicorn. Besides that, WNW would do a much better job of it anyway IMHO. Another thing is that Austro-Hungarian AC are very under represented in 1/32. I'm looking forward to the HPH Berg D. I, but it will most likely be pretty expensive.

True - only one HC Spad on ebay now and its for a dear price. I have personally come around to wishing WNW does reconsider their stance and does a Spad 13 and especially a Nieuport 17 - initially I was totally on board with their policy and hoping they concentrated only types not yet done in 1/32. But, while yes, the older kits can be built into very nice pieces with effort, scratching details, aftermarket, etc, they are just so, so far under the quality and detail fidelity that is being done by WNW in their kits....
-
I ordered the international version of the Spad from these guys a few weeks ago. I already had the Aces version. Maybe give them a try. Currency is Canadian pesos :P

Exactly the same with the good HC Camels, also hard to fond and expensive, given that their original shelf price was $20.
And Roden didn't stop WNW from molding SE5a's, D.H.2's or Pfalz DIII's. Their choices seem to stem from whim and not the market, which means get your favorite while you can--they may be a long time gone.
-
I hope Copper State sticks with 1/48th. Their new kits are great and I would like to see them expand their line.
Tim Pivonka

Yea copper state should stay with 1/48. 1/48 has been severely neglected for the last several years.

Au contraire, the decision to make the SE 5, Dh2 and Pfalz were made long before Roden did theirs, all choices are what Sir PJ wants so yes it is wise to buy them as soon as possible.

Oh guys I'm officially allowed to tell you that the Fokker D.VII Early uses exactly the same plastic as the Fokker D.VII (FOK), however the Early boxing has updated Photoetching and different decals (Obviously) David Johnson will compare the two P.E sprues from the Early and the (FOK) D.VII and will confirm if you can build the D.VII from the same kit. This is very good news for those that missed the first round of D.VII and wish to build the D.VII (FOK).
-
Curious to see the PE! I'm already thinking that I can use this boxing of the DVII to put decals on from the first boxing. I may have to buy a few.
Is it crazy to have 10-ish of the DVII type alone?
-

Are you kidding? Is it crazy to have more models in stash than to be able to build at one time? My wife asks me that frequently... Of course it is not! Necessity never is crazy. When wil the rest of the world understand us? ;D

Hanriot pretty cool too.....

yeah all of these proposals would be great - tops for me is that HD1 though - fingers are crossed WNW do that one sooner rather than later :)

Like most of us I welcome the release of this kit. I don't particularly need another D.VII as I've got 3 of the 4 original kits, but this new release will allow all sorts of variations both early & late to be built. Couple that with the existing aftermarket accessories / decals and it results in a huge array of possibilities. Hopefully the availability again of a D.VII will encourage even more aftermarket goodies to be released.

That reads rather like an informed suspecting, Lance...(it's your exclamation point)....you know something we don't know? C'mon, come clean.
-
I Don't know why they don't do an Albatros D-III. At one point during the war, it probably was flown by
over 50% of all German fighter units. It was literally the Me-109 of the First World War.

Doug,
No inside knowledge here, more so the tendency of Wingnuts to follow on the heels of TVAL additions. That and a bit of wishful thinking perhaps, an HD.1 would be most welcome!

That's okay, I'll take zavod44's one.
DEFINITELY keen for a BE.2 or three.

Authentic US-built DH.4 at Omaka, too...
Yes, that's definitely one of the 'biggies' still waiting in the wings, isn't it? It has to have been on that famous list WNW initially drew up. I would expect when the DH.4 arrives, it'll be quite a family of boxings. But I also expect it's at least a couple of years away, because - on the basis of no solid information possessed by me at all :) - we're going to see some B.E.2s first.
Mark
-
What "famous list WNW initially drew up", Mark? Never heard about such a list, before! A DH.4 is high on my wishlist, too!!
-
I think the reference is from one of the initial "blurbs" from Richard A. about Wingnuts having over 50 items in mind when they started. Obviously this was merely a tease as the kit numbers currently stand at 76 with 21 numbers still to be filled. Since WNW is not given to spilling the beans about anything in advance or in great detail until the products are nearly ready for selling or come as a complete surprise, we will just have to wait to see what that might have meant.

It'll be really interesting to see how much variation WNW has kitted...
Found some pictures of the interned Albatros Taube and indeed I don't think that's going to work... just look at the tank on the engine, shape of the nose panels, style f exhaust, and undercarriage for example.
If I get one (for my birthday) and WNW does not provide at least some suitable parts, I'll probably build it as-is. I'm not afraid to modify a kit a bit, but this above my skill level ;)
https://digitaal.dezb.nl/beeldbank?q_searchfield=A29%2F13
A bit of a shame, just look at those odd underwing crosses and it was flown by Hans Hesse ("Der Vogelmann") who escaped Internment twice -once to the displeasment of the Emperor so he was sent back...
