Post by: Suffolk Lad on June 13, 2016, 05:39:12 AM: Hi guys, Further to my questions regarding tensioning mono-filament rigging I thought you might be interested to see this.

I saw this on E-bay for the princely sum of £14.99 with 'free' postage. It comes with five differing sized bits and has, given the price, a reasonably well made look about it. Allegedly variable from 150 to 500 degrees how it performs for the intended task remains to be seen but it's a lot less unwieldy than the last iron used. Besides it should allow for some finer soldering too.

Mack - this is the link to the page - there are others but I thought this was the best deal for the price. BTW the slightly cheaper version (same model) does not come with the spare tips

Third paragraph under first pic you'll see I did try this using the larger 'Cooks' matches. What I found was that it works pretty quick but only very localised for as soon as the heat dissipates the effect is lost. Using the iron gave a consistent heat along the length of rigging which really tightened quite a slack line but I agree it is an operation where one has to use extreme care.
