Title: Pfalz d.IIIa interior colours
Post by: Black Max 72 on April 28, 2016, 09:28:49 AM
Ok guys, what is the  general consensus on the pfalz cockpit colours. WNW gives tamiya xf76 interior grey green as their choice but I've seen elsewhere that it could've been a darker grey. Also, if the instrument panel and cockpit floor were part of the internal structure wouldn't they also have been painted. Everybody goes for varnished wood for the IP and floor and while that certainly looks more visually interesting I'm wondering how accurate it is. Thoughts?

I tend to agree. If the instrument panel was an integral part of the structure and not a separate attachment why would the factory treat it differently. Paint and varnish both protect the wood so I could see the factory choosing one or the other as a matter of expediency not both. I imagine they had deadlines just like modern manufacturing and anything that complicated the building process would probably have been avoided, they weren't trying to win best in show at Oshkosh! That's my take anyway, based more on supposition than anything else ::) I was thinking of painting the floor as woodgrain, applying a chipping solution, coating in the interior colour then wearing away the paint around the rudder bar I think this would accurately reflect the wear and tear it would've received and would definitely look a bit different, probably a bit more WW2ish.
