Hi everyone,
It's been a while since I've posted anything mainly because of a hectic work schedule and zero time at the bench, but as they say, "you will make time for what you like to do". So I am making time to start a build I've had in the works for quite a while...an AEG N.I Night Bomber. I picked up two of the new production Copper State Models resin AEG C.IV kits and requested an extra set of upper and lower wings for one of the kits. I'll be using Jack Herris' excellent book on the subject as a resource....................

Here's the extra set of wings and the fuselage halves, the wings are very nice and thin and are of uniform thickness across the length of the wing, SUPER NICE!!! I will remove and replace the internal fuselage bracing with styrene rod.........

I also picked up a resin Karaya Benz engine for the build. I'm really looking forward to the build but it won't be a quick one. It will just be nice to get back to modelling.

Mark,
Nice to see you posting your next build! I am certainly looking forward to following along on this one!

PS: How goes the passenger LVG?

Hi,
how cool, I'll follow that closely! Do you already know how to paint the hexagons?
I'm sure you know this built:

I'm keen on seeing your progress. I'm planning to convert my C IV into a J I or J II some day...

Thanks Rick, it's great to hear from you! The LVG Limo is coming along too. I was working on it earlier today and my masking pulled some paint off of the wheel covers (dang it!) so some days it's one step forward, two steps back. Nothing I can't fix but just a pain in the old arse to have to do it again.

Mark,
Long time no see my old friend. This looks to be another excellent project from your talented bench. I'll be following along with the greatest of interest.

Too bad I didn`t announce our Benz Bz. IV in time)
it will be on the next week)
I really want a Benz IV in 1/32 for my LVG Limo build to replace the kit engine. I look forward to it and I'll be buying it ASAP when it is ready.

Thanks Des!! :)

It will be interesting to see how you will be able to cope with the masking involved. Have fun!

Hi everyone,
I've had a chance to get the parts for the upper wings ready. Here you can see the actual wing and center section length and the extensions I've cut from the spare wings..............

Nice to see you back at the bench Mark :)
Terri

Hi Terri! Great to hear from you! Thanks for looking in on my build.

An interesting conversion, I'll be following this one!

Thanks guys, it's great to hear from you!
The wings are almost done, just some more priming and filling..........................
And I received my custom paint package from Sergey today. YAY!! Thanks for the awesome mug Sergey!
I'm really looking forward to using the new paints.
Mark

Love what you have done so far Mark, I'm anxious to see how the paints turn out.
Des.

Great start! I can't wait to see your masks being used! :)
-
Thanks Des and Borsos!
You wont have to wait long Borsos, I plan on using one of the spare wings to test paint very soon.
Mark
-
Mark,
Your wings are coming along nicely! I am looking forward to seeing how your use of the Drooling Bulldog paints go. From all I have seen they look fantastic.

Thanks Rick!
It's cold and snowing here so no enamel painting this weekend. I'm working on fitting the Benz engine and modifying the cockpit and cowling areas. The N.I didn't have a forward firing gun and the cowling needs to fit snug against the engine.........
Mark

Very good work to the wings and fuselage, Mark.
Cheers
Martin

excellent start and also great to see you on a new project.
-
Nice work, especially the wings Mark. Have you been able
to do any painting yet? Looking forward to the next updates,
my friend. :D
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
Thanks Scott and Ernie. I was able to get some test painting done today on a spare wing.
more soon,
Mark

wow a great paint job and very interesting and rarely seen modelling subjects! I`m going to follow this thread!
-
Excellent work so far Mark.
-
Hey Mark , very nice job on the camo . :)
Terri
-
Thanks for all of the replies!
I'm slowly making progress. The wings are pretty much done except for the right side of the center wing section. I sanded a little too much on that side and I had to raise it up with some thin plastic card.........
Mark
-
Very good work Mark.
Cheers
Martin

Thanks Martin!
-
Hi everyone,
I had some time to sit down and configure the new strut locating holes in the wings and center wing section. I used the scale drawings and graph paper to help draw pencil markings to line everything up properly...............
Thanks,
Mark
-
Nice neat work, Mark. It's a pleasure following your build(s), my friend.
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
Nice work indeed.
I wasn't even aware of the N series of single-engined night bombers until you started this build. I just bought the book, so now I'm up to date. Now I may have to build one myself! (What were they thinking? Single-engine, night, bomber? Strange idea..... )
Ian

Thanks Ernie and Ian, I'm having a lot of fun with this one.
Mark
-
Hi everyone,
I had some time today to drill holes for brass rod to pin the upper wing sections together, contour the trailing edge of the center wing section and make the cutouts for the upper wing landing lights.....
Mark
-
How's the overall fit on the kit?mostly the fuselage.I have the old copper state AEG and it is ruff.the fuselage is twisted there are holes and voids. the floor insert is I'll fitting and nothing really lines up.I imagine its a good deal better than the old kit .l
-
Hi Scott,
It's much better than the old versions but still needs a little work. The right an left sides of the fuselage tail is a little off (one higher than the other) but I'll be running brass pins through them to line them up. The floor insert will need a little work to thin the sides this get it to fit but nothing too complicated. No holes or voids at all, it looks like the resin parts were vacuumed. It's much better than the old versions but still needs a little work.
Mark
-
Outstanding work on the landing lights and wings in general!
RAGIII

Thanks Rick!

Just picked up the new Copper state Models Benz engine for my build, much more detailed than the Karaya engine. Time to get back to work.
-
Awesome work on the N.I, Mark! Really looking forward to the C.IV. Yes, the CSM engines are much, much better than the Karaya offerings and pretty much everything else that's available. Excellent stuff.
Cheers,
Bud
-
Can't wait to see an update.
-
The NI kit is cool and it looks like something I could do if I had 2 AEG C-IV kits in 1/72 scale.
-
they probably have a kit for the aeg N.1 in 1/72 scale they have just about anything you can think of. 1/48 we are lucky to have c.iv we can convert and 1/32 may never even have that.
-
Hey, Mark! Hello! Still out there? Did you ever finish this beauty? I'm about to start the CSM AEG and I'm curious as to how this one turned out.
Cheers,
Bud

Hey there Bud, still working on it, I had to really put the hot water to one of the fuselage halves to make it match the other side but it's coming along. I do a little on it here and there. I have a secret modeling project I'm working right now that's taking up all of my time. I'll show it when it gets done then it's back to my other model projects including this one.
Mark
-
Hello Mark
You are a hero for building a N-type, just noticed this one. Looking great so far but now intrigued to know what the secret project is.
Alan.
-
Hi Alan,
Great to hear from you! Not so much a secret, more like me not trying to post so much. I'm building 6 versions of the same kit.
more soon,
Mark
