Title: Lloyd FJ. 40.05 1/48
Post by: xmald on February 20, 2016, 01:07:23 AM
Hello,
I will be posting progress pics of a scratch build project by my friend - Jacek Bassara . I will test the parts he will produce since the intention is to make this bird available in limited number as a resin model kit. Probably many of you would like to have it in their collection and the Legato kit is almost a holy grail of 1/48 builders  ;).
Should anyone have plans in better quality than the ones I`ve found online please let me know! I hope you will be of assistance when it comes to some issues during the build!

Filip, if Jacek produces it, I definitely want one!  I'll be following his progress eagerly.
Cheers,
Bud

What a lovely aeroplane. Oh no! - another on my scratch build list!

We`ll be doing everything we can to make the model available. There will be some issues with the PE and decals - we don`t know if can find someone, who will produce them at relatively low cost so, that the kit would cost around 30-40$. We shall see since we both don`t have experience in producing models... Jacek is selling his first kit - it`s a resin model of a Polish glider in 1/72nd scale.

Do you have any information on the MAG Daimler 160 hp engine? Really ANY piece of information would be a great help...

Jacek said that before the production can even start he needs a fully equipped workshop. So the table comes first:

And the workers could complete the rudder construction:

The frame has been covered with linen (aluminium from the lager can - the usual medium Jacek uses).

Hi,
I found some additional info in my archives - it is from Osterreiches Flugzeuge, by Reinhard Keimel:

I want also to advise you to use the 3-View from The Austro Hungarian Aircraft of World War One book (the Haddow's one), but i ask others here to confirm.
You will find it in my folder

As for the Engine, I think that Edgar here  at CSM  has a very good Austro Daimler 160Hp, so if you make the model without engine to contain costs, the modelers willing one can add a CSM or some other resin engine.
And you can also speedup production :)

By the way, if the rudder is intended as the Lloyd 40.05 one, it is clearly wrong :-)
It had a one piece rudder, as you can  see from the photo

Thanks for your commitment Pustota and Ermeio! The Information you have provided is very useful!
Jacek has mistaken the rudder spar with stabiliser/rudder division. He is working on another rudder - correct this time.
Pustota, you have posted the pics of the Austro Daimler 160 ps engine - am I not mistaken to think that MAG Daimler - was the same engine just produced in the Hungarian Division of the company?
Egar I think your engines will be absolutely gorgeus!
I`ll post some of his work later - like I mentioned before, he uses an unusual medium to build his models - lager can aluminium to , which are mostly extremely rare subjects from the Polish Air Force history like this Ilya Muromets bomber used by the Poles:

Hope to post some progress pics soon!

After the initial problems with the Lloyd factory workers - wrong rudder. They succeded in finishing it - this time properly ;)

What do you think this time?

Cheers!
Do you know what the ailerons and stabilisers were covered with? I would say linen but the horizontal  stabilisers look pretty dark in the pictures. What do you think?
Title: Re: Lloyd FJ. 40.05 1/48
Post by: pustota on February 23, 2016, 12:05:44 AM
In my opinion linen.

These factory workers like their Lager!

These factory workers like their Lager!
They most certainly do  ;)... like we all, don`t we?  ;) ;)
In my opinion linen.
Pustota, this is exactly my eduacated guess as well.
In the meantime Jacek completed the new, better, bigger... rudder  ;)

alieron and stablizers line, horizontal stabilizers seem more dark and glossy, but other similar aircraft have them covered in linen, so i guess linen.

In the meantime Jacek has finished his Muromets project:

And some update on the Lloyd FJ:
The construction of the horizontal stabiliser:
What do you think does it look plausible. There was an extended discussion on the other forum - (our native - Polish one) concerning the possible construction of this part. What do you think about these rounded parts at the front of stabilisers (plywood)?
Fragment of the fuselage:

And the stabiliser covered:
What do you think since we are discussing that with Jacek:
1. The stabilisers should be as you can see in the picture.
2. The stabilisers should be flat and simple as for example in Lloyd C.V.
Your opinion is very important for us!
Title: Re: Lloyd FJ. 40.05 1/48
Post by: pustota on March 06, 2016, 03:57:15 AM
As i can see on the pictures, it flat with rib tape.
Title: Re: Lloyd FJ. 40.05 1/48
Post by: xmald on March 06, 2016, 04:08:40 AM
Thanks Pustota - I agree with you I also think it should be flat.

Post by: xmald on March 12, 2016, 05:43:21 AM
We have come to agreement with Jacek and the stabilisers will be cast in both "flat" and with construction visible variants.
Jacek has cast the rudder and the first version of stablisers in resin:
IMHO they look really good.
Here is the picture of the wing in progress

Hm, good, but:

the wingtip points up too much
and
the angle of the wooden panels seems suspicious.

just an impression, though - you should provide more photos

Those are the wings - I`ve pointed out to Jacek that in my opinion he should still work on the resin one and refine the trailing edge as well as the tapes. After doing so he should copy the refined resin wings.

Many thanks, Jacek is very grateful and your comments keep him motivated ;)
Another update - the lower wing Mk. 2  ;) It`s much better in my opinion. Some minor sanding "smoothing" will be required but nothing some sandpaper and a drop of filler won`t cope with...
The older wing is on the left the improved one is on your right:

Another update: the upper wings masters:
They are looking very good in my opinion - the shape is correct and they seem very subtle. I hope that the casting won`t show any problems.

Hi Jasec, any updates on this project? Been over a year since we have seen any updates.
