Hi guys!
in 1918 Giuseppe Ungaretti was a private returning from the trenches of the Italian front. He was also a poet eventually becoming one of the best in Italian XX century literarure. As many like him, he was shocked from what he endured in battle and had also the wit to write abut it in a very touching way.
He joined a group of poets called "the ermetics" as they tried to write short, powerful poems. One of his best known is the following (translation is by me, so I hope to make him justice):
We stay
like in autumn
on the trees
the leaves
This very short poem, describes (very well indeed and it has become an everyday sentence in spoken Italian) the situation in which trenchmen lived.
When I saw the pictures below, I was remembered of the poem and decided to give it a try...

So here is my tribute... I know I took a lot of "artistic licence" in this model but I hope to have cought the spirit of it

Wow, this is very nice! You have represented the poem and the photographs perfectly. I would like to know more about how you made this? What scale is it? How did you make the broken wings?

Edo,
You've done it again, just beautiful! Great work on the broken and damaged sections, this is a really unique and well presented theme, and ties in perfectly with your translation of the poem and the photos. Very very nicely done!!

Hey mates!
What a surprise! I am very pleased from your wonderful feedback!
Besides I am turning 50 today and this is just a lovely way to start my day!!! ;D
The plane is an Eduard 1:48 kit while the ambulance is a RPM offering (a real gem I should say and a surprise as well. Very good details: the engine is there while the interior of the cab is missing, but not so hard to scratch. It can have a lot of different uses and I recomand it 100%).
I am not very satisfied with the plane; the Edward offering is ok, but I build it very badly... I was distracted by other builds I had in mind and rushed it... Anyway, I am glad how the damaged wing turned out. I rebuid some ribs with plasticard and/or copper wire and recovered it with aluminium foil that was painted and ripped. I am glad you like the result. :)

There are some very good dioramas on this site but this surely is one of the best. The idea has been captured perfectly in the model and I think that if you ca produce a model as good as that then you have nothing to be worried about. That is taking modelling to a level of which most of us can only dream…. Wonderful beyond words.

Hello,
Just for fun I searched "WWI plane crash tree" via google picture search engine and obviously such an end was not as rare as one might think...
Did you take in-progress-pics how you made the destroyed planes? I'd actually love to learn how you did that. I have startet the MPM Ford-t too for a larger diorama project and I totally agree: It's a great kit that turns into a nice car. And I love how you finished it!
Do you know Wiseman Models? They produce several other Ford-t versions (touring car, torpedo, ...) in 1/48 as white metall kits.
(found their stuff on ebay: http://www.ebay.de/itm/150695858858?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT) I have one, it's not as nice as MPM but looks quite promising. I'll do a British or French staff car when I find an idea for a diorama which is just a little bit as good as your idea here.

hi Enrie and Borsos!
Thank you very much!
Unfortunately I don't have in progress pictures, as this was ment to be a quick build... but I have some pics of a previous build (a Fokker DVII) that could be useful :)
Anyway it is not as hard as one could imagine, just give it a try! ;)
I generally cut a 2 or 3 rib portion off the wing; from the cut off portin I then cut 1 or 2 spare ribs that can be useful later in the rebuilding of the damaged section. These spare ribs are joined to the remaining wing
(http://i1016.photobucket.com/albums/af290/Edo0606/ala03.jpg)
Then I cover the damaged part in aluminium foil (stealing it from SWMBO actually ;)) that is painted, decalled and wethered as usual and then is ripped through with a sharp point (needle or such)
Be careful to paint also the inside of the foil!!!
Hope this helps!
ciao
