All,
Following on from my introduction, thought I would post a sample of some of my recent work. All pretty much OOB and brush painted.
Pictures below of some Roden kits (SE5a Hisso, Pfalz DIII in 32nd scale and Sopwith Camel in 72nd) and one Wingnut Wings (my first WNW kit) of the Albatros DVa.
Regards all
Dave

Great job Dave. Always nice to see someone else that still brush paints. Nice finish on the Albatros!

Dave,
Exceptionally beautiful projects my friend. Especially "Stropp" with her outstanding wood graining. It's a real shame that when the original "Stropp" was restored at the NASM they didn't return it to the original wing camouflage.

Nice work. Brush work is one of my fears now. You make it look perfect.

Nice Work Dave: You brush work is amazing, I didn't see any evidence of brush strokes, very nicely done, I too am partial to the DVA, very nicely done.

Again, many thanks -
I'm flattered that everyone seems to like my standard of brush painting - appreciated as I have always been a bit self conscious (in the past) comparing to the work of others (who spray) which always seems so much better to the point they actually look real!
The key (what works for me anyway) is to use a base coat prior to main colour (usually neutral colour like light grey, but does depend on what top colour is going to be) and then really thin paint before brushing on. Thirdly, build up in layers (once paint dry) with brush strokes moving in one direction (such as along wing for example) and then alternate direction on subsequent coats - I always make sure though that last coat brush strokes are in the direction of the airflow over aircraft surface - hope this all makes sense!!
