Lovely model and a great build article. As for the Airfix kit, Alberto Casirati did a beautiful re-work:

Not sure about "masterpiece", but this 1:72 Airfix RE8 was my 3rd build after getting back into modelling. I didn't have access to plans so didn't correct the wings or fuselage apart from raising the cockpit sides, adding the carb fairing and separating the air scoop from the fuselage. The interior is scratchbuilt, the tailskid improved and the struts thinned. The undercarriage was also improved and various smaller details added...
I have another one in the stash, along with a Mini-World twin Lewis and scarff ring, and a Choroszy RAF4a engine to help with the detailing.....

Beautiful job Ian, I don't know how you guys do it in 1:72 scale, incredible workmanship and superb rigging, well done.

Ian,
I keep repeating myself; WOW, 1/72 Scale!?!? Very nice work.
Cheers,

Thanks gents!
As I stated, this was an early build. Really just to see what could be done was this old pile of plastic after having built it (many!) years ago as a kid. The rigging is overscale and the basic airframe wasn't corrected as it needs to be. I have another, quietly awaiting it's turn, and with the "extras" I have for it, and tips from Old Man's build I'm hoping for a much better, and more accurate. result!

Hello Ian:
The rigging may be a bit out of scale, but my gosh, what a build. Outstanding work my friend.

Hi Ian
It's always nice to see a model of the much maligned 'Harry Tate' and I do marvel as to what you lot can achieve in 1/72 scale. Well done!
Best wishes

Great build threads guys. I've just ordered the WW kit so these will be a real boon.
Many thanks.

Heres my WNW RE8. I cut away the fuselage on the starboard side after seeing this done in the Air Modellers Guide Vol 1. Hope you like them.

Heres a couple more images. More on the WNW website.

Wow, beautiful modeling. Love how you exposed all the internal detail.

Stunning build there! A real gem for sure.

Stunning Build, the detail work is incredible. I have yet to build mine but I can only hope to get half the results I see here. Great modelling, you can be extremely proud of this beauty!
Cheers,
