Not sure about the operator or variant but the aircraft type looks like a Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter to me?
Edit - possibly Russian? http://wio.ru/ww1a/sopw112.htm (http://wio.ru/ww1a/sopw112.htm) especially looking at the lower wing cockade with a possible 5 pointed star?

Looks like a Strutter to me too. The cyrillic caption reads: Samolot "Sopfis'", which is in Englisch nothing more than: Aircraft "Sopwith".. And, yes, it's the "rounded" version of the 5-pointed red star of the Bolshevik Forces during the Russian Civil War.

No doubt about it. Strutter it is.
Cheers,
Bud

Yes a Strutter and it's an aircraft long over due for a visit from WNW in my opinion :D

A Strutter on snow skis. Would have made a good subject for our Group Build! ;D
