Title: X configured four bladed propellers?
Post by: Berman on December 24, 2014, 06:07:24 AM
Manufacturers sometimes created a four bladed propeller by bolting a pair of two bladed propellers together in an X pattern, such as the Fokker V22, instead of mounting the props perpendicular to each other. What was the reason for the X pattern??  I assume this did not cause any problems with either balance or synchronous machine gun fire.

seen it alot on a-h types. post war czech mag built fokker d.vii  and aviatik berg types d.1 ,d.2 c.1. ive seen it on many others too that i dont remember for sure, i want to say some hansas and phonix had the . i think your exactly rite justin this is what i figured. must have been the spacing of the bolts that made that happen. why else? i wouldnt think there would be an advatage over perfectly perpendicular. but then im not an aeronautical engineer.
