Last time I had really lot of work. But hope, I menaged, and find some time for modelling :)
I started Bentley Br2. My friend Simon helped me with documentation. I have photos of each screw, each washer in this engine. From this reason, I have the only objective: ANY COMPROMISES!!! Each screw will be reproduced with any simplification. It could be really difficult, but I'll try.
This engine will be done as a separate and complete model with a stand for exposition.
A few pictures of my work. This will be a build log, I'll suplement this with a new pix.
The cylinders base:

If you see any mistakes, inaccuracies - let me know, please - I'll correct it.
Thanks for watching, Lukasz
-
That is absolutely superb work, Lukasz. :D Your detail work is
amazing!
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
Amazing - so cool to see the process to develop the resin engine!
-
Wow! :o Amazing work. So precise . . .
-
And propeller's mont ready (almost):
-
Thanks for taking the time to document the development process for this engine. I am fascinated by your attention to detail, and ability to bring that to resin castings. Outstanding.
This means I will have to go ahead with that WnW Sopwith Snipe kit in anticipation of this engine. I think it calls for a simple diorama scene in which the cowling has been removed, or the engine itself has been dismounted for maintenance or repair.
I'm looking forward to more. Well done!
-
Thank you for the update Lukasz on this Bentley engine, what you have done so far is nothing short of brilliant.
Des.
-
Looks truly stunning - Well done!
vB :)
-
Wonderfull, please keep us updated :)
Best regards,
Sasho

Tomorrow I start "fighting" with cyllinders head. It's the most problematic part in this engine in my oppinion. But I'll try...
Today, for resting, I tried to fit propeller mount - it works!!!! I easily assembled it:
Thanks a lot, Lukasz
-
Lucasz
So I looked at the first few images and thought "Yes that's nice and well done" Then I saw the ones held in your fingers and realised just how intricate it is. Once I picked my jaw up off the keyboard I managed to type "Incredible!" So then say the prop boss assembled and now my chin is bruised twice! ;) ;D
Keith
-
Absolutely amazing is an understatement for the results you have achieved.
Des.
-
awesome!!
-
Luke you are a Model devil-bravo and thank you. :D ;)
-
It's so very nice - thank you so much for sharing some insights into the development of such a tiny resin accessory.
Stefan

Believe me or not, but this element took me two weeks! I regret to say, it is far from my expectation :-\ . I'm not going to do this once again - I tried seven times, "killed" all my bits and need to wait for new ones about two weeks. So it must stay as it is for this time. I'll try to correct it just a little, but I need to make "check point" (cast of this element). It's my horror - cylinder's head...
And bolt for cylinders attaching (this is not bad):
I'm getting older... when I had been preparing Oberursel UrII in 1:48 I had only knife and needles. Now I have really nice equipment and still something goes wrong. Maybe it's time for glasses ;D
All the best, Lukasz
-
Maybe you are just too self critical Lucasz, you do things most of us can only dream of.
;)Keith
-
Well said, Keith. Lucasz, you are an artist. :D
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
Lucasz you will never put your doubting demons to rest! This is the way for true artists!
-
And test fitting. It works!
Do not look at the cast quality - I demolded it too early and damaged ribs. But it fits! Now I can correct and finish cylinder's head.

THANK YOU FOR ALL GOOD WORDS!!!!!!!!!!!!
All the best, Lukasz
By the way - I'm working on pulsometer, think will be ready soon :)
-
Awesome.
-
I don't know how you do it. I would love to know

You are a true artist Lukasz and a perfectionist to boot. Your work is totally amazing and to my eyes looks perfect.
Des.

...what can we say, another masterpiece.....smells castrol ;)
-
I recovered my work!!!!
Let imagine: during final casting of FINISHED cylinder's head I missed silicon oil with cyanoacrylate glue!!! It was in the same cups :/ it was disaster...
I waited a week, and try to recover my work. It's not perfect, but acceptable. Below you can see test assembly of cylinder

That is absolutely awesome Lukasz, it is as close to the real thing as you could possibly get, looking forward to seeing the completed engine.
Des.

Stop! I don't want perfection! I want this!!!
Excellent work ;)

Incredible workmanship.

Bertl - you realise that you are now going to have to drill the end of the bolt through the castellated nut and fit a split pin ;)

Little different ;)
-
Yep, that's it Lukasz, I couldn't find a picture of the top of the engine. I'm sure that the modelers can add this small detail easily to each of the cylinder head bolts before the modeler has the engine assembled.
Des.
-
Des and Lukasz, -- you know, I will try it ;D
........................ and I know some other crazy here in this forum that will try.
I'm taking you at your word ;)
-
Lukasz, your work is amazing...what a great addition to the
modeling world your talents are. Thanks for all you do for us!
Cheers,
Ernie :)

Not putting any presuure on you Lukasz but do you have any idea when the Bentley may be ready, it is a beautiful engine.

Des.
Des... It's really difficult question... Sometimes everything goes right, and I'm thinking that only a few weeks, but sometimes I must fight (like in the case of cylinders heads) and I think that it would be a few years...
I'm going to prepare this engine with repair stand and full equipment - hope I'll finish within a month or two...under condition everything goes OK :)
By the way: HAVE YOU ANY PICTURES OF REPAIR STAND FOR Rotary engines?
All the best, Lukasz
-
Thanks very much Lukasz, a repair stand and full equipment will make it a dream for anyone wanting to make a diorama. I'm looking forward to seeing this engine released.

Hi Andy!
I didn't see your text - now I see. Good :D
The problem is, that my wife is preparing really good piernik - I couldn't lie ;D
-
As always, your progress looks amazing!
And excuse me for asking, but here in the US my wife and my mother have never made a "piernik". What is a Piernik?
George
-
And excuse me for asking, but here in the US my wife and my mother have never made a "piernik". What is a Piernik?
George
Sorry, it's our "Polish" talks :)
piernik means gingerbread (such a cake), but "piernik" sounds more funny :) It means also (in Polish) old fogey :)
All the best, Lukasz
-
Thanks for the answer. My mother has made piernik but my wife hasn't, so I guess my mother's is better too! ;D
Next time she makes it I'll compliment her on the "piernik". She won't know what I'm talking about! ;)
George

My wife has never made one but she IS married to one.

And next little step forward. Tappets ready! Those small things took me two weeks! But it's really small... Thanks to my friend Simon each, even the smallest thing in the Bentley, is measured.
Real thing:

Des.

I dont know how you do this magic but it is astounding.
James
PS started assembling one of your pulsators today and :o
-
I know, I promised to prepare magneto and switchers, but I couldn't....
I was going also to do fuel control unit for Albatros - forgive me Justin - I couldn't stop from finishing thrust box for Bentley. It was real challenge - those bolts has diameter only 0.28mm - it was the smallest bolt, I've ever prepared. But it's ready, and was quite pleasure to do.
Please do not look at painting - I tested tensochromes... it not works correctly, I'll stay with citadel washes :/

And what is ready so far:
So far 154 parts, and next 121 in preparing. Final engine will have in the simplest version 275 parts (at least). Assembling of this can be real challenge....
Now I'm starting magnetos :)
-
This Bentley engine is insane! How is it possible to do such small and intricate work? I'm so glad you are willing to take on these challenges.
Thanks,
George
-
Fan-freaking-tastic! Bravo Lukasz!!!
-
275 parts for such a small model, that is absolutely amazing, you attention to detail is incredible.
Des.

What a bauty!

Awesome stuff, Lukasz! I'll be buying one :)
Yes, hold one for me too!
George

Just extraordinary, Lukasz. I'm lost in admiration.

Hi Lukasz
I was thinking of you yesterday when I was visiting The Vintage Aviator Ltd for their last flying weekend of the season. TVAL are producing new build BR2 rotary engines and this one is virtually brand new, fitted to their latest Snipe E7643. Your workmanship is extraordinary and I am posting these photos to show (and celebrate) the accuracy you have achieved.
Cheers
James

i have to say this is the BEST engine you have ever done. the detail you have attained is astonishing. how? i wonder. you must have tiny lathes and machining equipement to get this perfect detail. this is beyond anything else anyone has done with regard to minature engines, i am also including the other time periods like ww2 aircraft and armor modelling. no-one is this cutting edge but you. you must be very proud. this has to be a labor of love for you.
-
The best a man can get!

Now joining the queue, I would also like to buy one of these marvels! When will they be available?

Now joining the queue, I would also like to buy one of these marvels! When will they be available?
As soon, as I will be able to finish boxes, instruction and final forms - it's a little work, but it will be soon :)
-
The more simple first version is now ready, do you have any idea when the more complex version will be ready, this is the one I am waiting for.
Des.

Hello gentlemen,
I don't want a diamond, I want Lukasz's Bentley engine !!! :) :)

Des.
It's what I'm waiting for also :) I'm working on it currently, simultaneous with finishing forms and boxes. Hope it will be really soon. I can tell you, that even engine's "interior" will be displayed (central support with electric connections) - it's almost done, pictures soon. Also stand (trestle? I don't know proper name) will be included.
All the best, Lukasz
-
There will be little delay with Bentley.... :/
A few parts are IMPOSSIBLE for casting - after first casting I thought, that all is OK, but next casts are damaged. The form can be used once!!!!
I decided to rebuild some of parts. I do everything in order to have exact 1:32 projection of Bentley Br2!!!!! There will be any simplification, and I'll manage!!!!!
Other parts has been damaged as a result of the HOT WEATHER (!!!!) - all parts are extremely fragile... I'll try to keep it in the fridge. I'll be selling in foam - it's the only solution.
Just for relax, I prepared this:
the wooden stand:
And extremely helpful thing: side spanner for the spark plugs setting. It was possible thanks to Eugeny from SmallStuff - THANK YOU EUGENY!!!! - he agreed for using of his idea
(http://www.taurusmodels.pl/img/bentley/spanner.jpg)
-
An excellent addition for the kit Lukasz, the spark plug spanner will make life just that little bit easier when assmbling these magical, but complex, engines.
Des.

amazing

You said it Scott! What workmanship, Lukasz!
Cheers,

Only a handful of craftsmen can produce this level of awesomeness and I ain't one of them!
Beautiful detail and worth every penny when released.

it was really hard, but finished!!!!!!!!
Now I need to go for some holidays, so go tomorrow :)
After my coming back I'll finish boxes and at the end of August engine will be available.
I must to tell you, that Br2 will be available only in the very limited number 100-200 (depending on a forms and matrixes resistance), but I'm going to keep the highest possible quality. For me it's more then model, hope you will like it :)
All the best, Lukasz
-
Dibs!
-
Dibs!
Me too! Put my name on the list please! :)
Actually, not to be greedy, but may I have two?
George
-
Of course my friends - do not worry, I don't predict abnormal interest in this engine , nevertheless engines for you are booked :)
Maybe you want rethink your decision, the price will be around 70$ :-\
All the best, Lukasz
-
ditto!
-
Hi Lukasz
I'll have one, and enjoy you're holiday.
Andrzej
-
The price is fair. I'm still sold.
George
-
Thanks a lot for all of you,
see you after holidays, hope with a new power :)
-
I think maybe a stand to go with it ... generic for all rotary engines ?
Any seconds...
Ed
-
I'm in. This will be a treasure that modellers in the future will say, I wish I sprung for one of those when I had the chance.
-
:o :o :o :o :o :o :o wow
-
Great work on the engine, Lukasz. Please, count me for one. Though I still do not see, where I could put it - Snipe is not attractive for me. But one never knows, and then it would be a shame to have an aircraft model with Bentley not from Taurus!
And enjoy your well deserved holidays!
-
some camels used bentleys, if rowan includes a scheme or 2 on a 1/32 camel sheet it would add to sales. that is if he does do a sheet i assume he would,it seems he does sheets for most new wnw kits. someone may someday release a salamander also some post war glosters used them like a sparrowhawk but i dont know if there is any 1/32 kits for these?
-
Put me down for one. It would be rude not too!
;)
Von B ;)
-
Put me down for one also
Ron
-
Finally home!
Tuscany is beautiful, but my workshop more :)
Thanks a lot for responses, I've booked Br2 from first casting for all of you. All my forms are for 10 elements, so first engines are like a master. I decided to certify these engines by a stamp.
Now I start to assembly the engine to make a front of box. You will see it tomorrow :)
All the best, Lukasz
-
Lukasz,
Put me down for one as well. Tuscany is a beautiful part of Italy..lol...I wish I had stayed ;) .

It is just like looking at a real engine Lukasz, you have done an incredible job creating this engine and what is more incredible is the amount of detail you have incorporated, absolutely amazing and a testament to your brilliant talents.
Des.
-
You have built it! :o Well, I think I will get me that WNW Snipe to accompany this jewel.
-
I am eagerly awaiting the release of this model, more than any for a long time. You should be very proud Lukasz, finest craftsmanship.
Great photography too ;)
Respect!
Cheers
James
-
That is your best engine you have built, Lukasz! And your painting is the best I've ever seen on a rotary engine! Wow, wow, and more wow!! I can't say enough!
George
-
Lukasz,
That is just amazing! The detail you've designed into this masterpiece is beyond what I'd have thought possible, you can be very proud of this accomplishment. As already said by Des, it looks like the real engine, I'm running out of words!
My unreserved compliments on some incredibly good work. :o 8)
Cheers,
Lance

I'm going to have to build my Snipe with the cowl off to show off this masterpiece!
George
-
Hello gentlemen and ladies,
What accuracy !! I can smell burnt oil. Bravo !!!!!
Best regards.
Alain.
-
A masterpiece,a supreme work of art!!!! Bravo BRAVO BRRRAAAAAVVVVVOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
-
Wow.
-
Thanks a lot!
Finally ready. I was going to start selling from now, but I have to wait just a little for protective foams (parts are really fragile!) and box covers. Now engine is available as a pre-order (of course all of you, who booked engines have a first cast series) I will have everything at Wednesday.
Concerning to building - It was little challenging. I had to correct crankcase - I pre-drilled wholes for mounting of cylinders, but a few were slightly shifted, and maintaining correct geometry was impossible. Fortunately I had a "backup" of an early stage and was able to correct it. Evening I'll start a new topic - "how to build Br2" or similar with step-by step building :)
Could you look at the project of the box? If you see any mistake, let me know. Of course not for free :) each mistake = a set from Taurus :)
(http://www.taurusmodels.pl/img/bentley/3225 box.jpg)
(http://www.taurusmodels.pl/img/reklamyWWW/3225 ADV WWW.jpg)

box looks great.
I would suggest "wire" instead of "wires" -- unless there is more than 1 piece of wire in the box (i assume it's up to the modeler to cut them to length)
-
Just placed my order! :)
George

Thanks a lot!

Hi Lukasz
I just put my order in, thanks in advance

Should be 'Resin model of a British rotary engine Bently BR.2' OK,Ok, I confess! I am clutching at straws here in the hope of 'each mistake=a set from Taurus.'
-
Andy, Bo - you hit!!! Thanks a lot! Of course additional sets to yours orders :)
Another question: 1st cast certificate or 1st cast's certificate?
Sorry for such a stupid questions :/

Hi Lukasz,
WOW, Just wow..... I just read the whole thread and you blow me away sir!
Having just completed your amazing Gnome Monosoupape 100hp British rotary engine I can't even comprehend how these are made from scratch - it left me physically and mentally exhausted - But I'm now addicted to your amazing models!
In regards to your question I would say either "First Casting Certificate of Authenticity" or "Limited Edition First Casting Certificate of Authenticity"
And Yes put me down for one! I have a Snipe that is dying to meet this beauty!
-
I dare not even look for mistakes to point them out in the company of native speakers. But, Łukasz, I trust you have not forgotten me. I am awaiting a PayPal invoice ;)
-
Such a shame you can't make decals of the Engine data plate with individual engine numbers for each of your models!
-
I suggest you simply say "Certified first casting run" and number it, e.g. "Set #3", and sign it.
Sounding better but then "Certified First Casting" I think is better sounding and again maybe: "Set #1 of 50" (This is normal with limited runs as otherwise the manufacturer can just keep adding numbers to the list after the first run :D)
Oh yes and please sign it!
-
Ordered mine should be on it's way hope topbe one of the first 50
-
Thanks a lot!!! It's what I meant - I think "Certified First Casting Run" is OK :)
Concerning to numbering - it makes no sense - I have forms for 10 pieces, so each of 10 first pieces are first. And only this run will be certified. I must stress, that this certificate will be rather only for collectors - I'm not going to release poor quality parts - I can assure, that each of cast will be the highest quality. Moreover, I'll prepare a new forms after each 4-5 runs in order to maintain the highest quality - it's the reason that this engine will be limited - I'm not sure is matrixes allows on a multiple forms making.
Thanks a lot for all of you once again,
all the best, Lukasz
-
I would honestly drop 'Run' as it does not sound correct - sorry its the teacher in me.
But regardless - I just ordered mine with lots of other goodies!

I think in this usage, "Run" means a specific number of kits produced. If you drop "Run" then it implies that there is only one "Certified First Casting". I say keep it as it is.

Yes Sir :)
Seriously, I'm waiting for a batch of protective foams. Some kind lady has confuse addresses and my foams went to other side of Poland :/ It fortunately has returned, and will be send tomorrow.
I'm also finishing instructions - little complicated assembly, so I'm going to do it right.
Except for this the parts are waiting for shipping to all of you :)
Everybody can pre-order, will be send Monday at the latest.
Step-by-step building soon :)
All the best, Lukasz

Lukasz,
I just stopped to say that this is simply amazing! I'm speechless, the details on this engine are just beyond me, first class worksmanship!

Speaking of Camels, will the Bentley fit in the standard Camel cowl? I know Bentleys were one of the main engines used for Snipes, but Camels usually came with LeRhones and Clergets. Many fewer had Bentleys. I'm just wondering if the Camel would need a special, non standard cowl.
George
-
Camel has been fitted with Bentley BR1, not BR2 :/
I'm going to prepare this engine also, but as you know it takes 1.5 a year :)
-
Hi Lukasz
I'll wait
Cheers
Andrew

Thanks for your reply, Lukasz. It will be worth the wait. I'm sure I have plenty to work on in the mean time. :)

Let me know if i have to make the cowling again?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, Lukasz, but isn't the Br2 designed to fit into the Wingnuts Snipe cowl perfectly?
George
-
I've just check - the cowling need some sanding, but Bentley can be fitted with no problem. Of course Ron surely will prepare ready-to-use cowling :)
-
I think we should be able to manage a little sanding . . . we are modellers, right?
-
I'm back!
Sorry for absence - I caught some awful flu...
I's better now, but I've little delay - I was going to dispatch all pre-orders yesterday. tough luck, I'm sending Monday - it's yours orders :)
And finally Bentley is available :)
I'm finishing detailed instruction and documentation in my www. Also step-by-step build will be in the forum within few hours.
All the best, Lukasz
P.S. Jamo - you're right. Snipe needs only little sanding.
-
No problem, Lukasz. I'm glad you're feeling better.

George,
You lucky devil you. That's heck of engine collection you have there my old friend. I can hardly wait to see what awesome projects you use them in.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette
-
Gregory,
They are all earmarked for specific projects. The Bentley is for a Snipe, of course. The four Oberursels are for a Fokker E.I, E.II, E.III, and an E.IV. One of the Gnomes is already built and is going in my DH.2 which I am currently building. The other Gnome is still awaiting an assignment. I love these little jewels so much, they are complete models in their own right. :)
George

I haven't finished yet :)

Lukasz, you better stop cheating us. The photos you showed must be of a real scale engine. Yes, I owe the engine kit you produced, I have looked at it many times, planned my Snipe build, but I do not believe those resin parts can be possibly built into such a masterpiece. No way!
Congratulations - multi-congratulations!

Bloody hell.
The last time I saw an engine that accurate was in the RAF museum in Hendon.
And it was 4 feet wide.

I have the Bentley and even in the box it's a jewel! Each part is carefully packed in foam. The only way to do this engine justice is to have to cowl on the Snipe off, which is what I plan to do. :)
George

It would be such a shame to hide the incredible engine, the Snipe cowl covers most of the engine.
