Title: Fokker Wingnuts
Post by: Umlaufmotor on August 29, 2014, 06:04:22 AM
You all know the Fokker Wingnuts?
This one-armed wing nuts to fasten trim panels etc. ..?

No, not all?

OK, I'll tell a few words about it.
These wing nuts were in the original made from heavy brass - or later, when raw materials were scarce - made of iron.
The part with the female thread was spherical, and the wing is thicker toward the end.
The metal cover has been attached a washer which in the inner diameter of which was several millimeters larger than the threaded pin, which passed through this disc therethrough.
Thus, the contact area of the ball of the Fokker wing nut was relatively small.
Due to the weight and the fact that there was only one wing, a "coming loose" in flight - or so -, of these Fokker nuts was almost impossible.

Ok, so far so good.

Now back to modeling.
Specifically, to Lukasz from Taurus.

I asked him if he can manufacture these Fokker wing nuts in Resin. ???
"But that these things are damn small", I wrote him. :-\
No problem, he wrote back, - If so, Then it's just a new interesting challenge for me - he said. :-*

Well, we'll see - I thought to myself as I read his response. ::)

On Monday of this week I got a small package of Lukasz. :D
There I was speechless when I saw the contents. :o

See for yourself, fine and tiny Fokker wing nuts from Resin. Even the threaded parts with the shims are there.

This man is a sorcerer  :o
A Resin sorcerer.

And from now on I will call him only "Lukasz, the Resin sorcerer". 8)

P.S.
Unfortunately I have this weekend no time to test the handling with these mini-nuts.
I have to prepare my Kawasaki for the race track ......

But next week I'm testing - and will report.

Lucasz or anyone

I've some of these on order, any chance you can tell me the hole size I need to drill in the panels to take the studs?

SWMBO ordered them plus some other delicate parts to complete my D.VII group build.

.45mm :)

.2mm hole needs to be drilled in the wingnut proper.

PS you'll want your microscope.

Seems to me I got something like one of those little devils in my eye once. ::)
Lucasz, I don't know how you do it!

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Cheers Bo. Will you be tapping yours out to the correct thread pitch?  ;)

Unfortunately I only have Imperial thread taps at this size, I hope the judges don't mind. ;)

Seriously though, drilling the .20mm hole in the wingnut is going to present quite the challenge methinks. These things are approximately the size of a fly's whisker. I am still pondering how to attack this activity...

I just received them in the post today... EEK!

How does Lucasz work things so small. Brilliant though but daunting to even think of fitting
(How many will ping into infinity this weekend in Kornbeefland?)

:o wish my eyes and fingers were 20 years younger.

A 0.2mm hole - pfff - where is the problem?   ::) ;D

Pre-drilling with 0.15mm and redrill with 0.2mm.

Next time I must probably better aim - not exactly in the middle. ::)

..................... but, where exactly do I find the middle of nothing? :-\
These things are incredibly tiny.

As I already said: "Lukasz, the Resin sorcerer".  :o
