Bitten by Squirrel in Bali  :o

Do you think I need the shots?

Squirrels are rabbies carriers, I would check with the locals if there are some rabbies cases in the area and got vaccinated!

Stevan,
Tetanus could be a "player" as well. Have you had a Tetanus shot lately? regardless, I'd recommend you inquire about shots.
Not to try to make light of it, but how in hell did you manage to get bitten by a "Tree rat"!? ???
Take Care,
Lance

Yes, definitely!

I hope you'll have lots of other more positive reasons to remember Bali.

Best wishes
Nigel

Hello Steven:

Not to be a fear monger, but; as has been mentioned, I would get checked out by a physician.

Take care

Mark

Arrived back in OZ today at 0730 in the morning.

Now that was an eventful end to my holiday.  :'(

Mandatory notification to the Department Health; I’ve just got back from seeing the Tropical Diseases Specialist (3 x injections later) and needles into my fingertips!

Yes, modellers, needles into my fingertips.  Hmm, only three more needles to go (what fun), I’ve only got two arse cheeks, so I wonder where the good doctor plans to stick my third Rabies shot?  (suggestions welcome)

I cried (man tears) in the clinic today.  All that stuff from the nurse about taking me to see the doctor at the back of the clinic to avoid all the colds and flues was just BS.  I got the sound-proof-room and still managed to frighten the other patients with the screaming.
(squeal like a pig for me boy!)

Never, ever, again will I hand feed the cute furry animals while on holidays. (I don't care  how soft your velvet nose is, I'm a hardened man)

My week long relationship with Mr “Hello Darling” (cute squirrel with the big brown eyes) is well and truly over.  What started out as an occasional peanut just between man friends, ended up as an (unsupervised) excess of Bintang beer, peanuts and all of Mr Hello Darling’s squirrel mates coming over and having a party on my hotel balcony.

One of his mates (a Werewolf masquerading as a squirrel) bit my ring finger down to the bone during a desperate lunge for the offered peanut.  I was two hours away from catching my scheduled flight home.

I’m left with lasting memories of Bali and Mr Hello Darling, including a not so subtle sense of irony for giving Bo some shtick in his thread about squirrel hunting while on vacation.  :)

Mr Hello Darling got off with a feast
His mate, the Werewolf, is now hunting for fresh Australian friends
I can’t sit down and
Our favourite reviewer Jamo is going to have his Eindecker wheels laced by a one-armed (likely intoxicated) Aussie wheel maker tomorrow.

Happy Holidays!

Don’t forget to count the spokes

p.s.  I never knew Rabies was such a nasty disease, OK so it could have been worse, lucky I wasn't in Canada hunting beaver.

Just so you never forget your special time with Bali Bob the Rabid Squirrel, I thought I would post this little keepsake. Print it off and frame it  ;D

Sorry to hear about the injections, but better safe than dead.

Hello Darling!

Yes, I have been a very naughty squirrel.

(http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg296/Purple_Haze_240/My%20Stuff/squirrel.png) (http://media.photobucket.com/user/Purple_Haze_240/media/My%20Stuff/squirrel.png.html)

And deserve a spank.

Ohhhh, Ouch, Ahhhhhhhhh! Thank you Bo, please spank me some more.  ;D

Now Terri, if getting a virtual spank from Bo (dressed in his squirrel suit) helps me to focus on the task at hand (making Jamo's wheels) then I can only say that I'm most unworthy. (and deserve another spank)

Ahhhhhhhhh, Ohhhh, Ouch!

Yes Bo, I have been playing with other squirrels, please spank me some more.

Got your message, Steve.  Already posted this image on another thread... but if the one that got you looked like this one, then there's no shame in it- they have a reputation for excellence in the attack:

Sure thing, Steven! I just wanted to ensure that you were aware of their markings so that you can keep an eye out for them in the event they're ever deployed to your sector.  I hope you're healing well and rapidly.

Hope this can ease your mind somewhat.

From SquirrelNutrition.com website:

"I've decided to take various subjects that I'm asked about on a regular basis, and write a BLOG about them. That way I can refer people to my BLOG answers much like a website will have a "Frequently Asked Questions" page. I have an ulterior motive in this in that BLOG material gets picked up by the search engines and gives me lots of back links to my site whenever people do searches on topics such as, "Do Squirrels Carry Rabies.

Now to the question. Again, the short answer is "No" squirrels do not carry rabies. Now, if the question were asked, "Can squirrels get rabies?," the answer would be "Yes," however their chances of contracting it is slim to none. In order for a squirrel to get rabies, it would have to hang around with animals that are common carriers. And that just doesn't happen. Many of the animals that would carry rabies are arch enemies of squirrels, and they avoid them like the plague. Plus, a squirrel is so quick at evasion and with 180 degree vision, the chances of them being bitten by a rabid animal are very remote. Most animals that carry rabies, if they ever got hold of a squirrel would more than likely kill it, so there would end the possibility of it carrying and transmitting the disease.

When people come to the Emergency Room with a squirrel bite, it is one of the few bites that does not trigger a rabies vaccine protocol. An interesting note that I've experienced over the years is that I have been bitten by squirrels numerous times, and I have never had a squirrel bite get infected!"

Yes, you still have many modeling days ahead of you......... 8)

Thanks AROTH

Yes, that’s reassuring, I’d like a few more modelling years up my sleave.  I must say, the only participant peanut at the party on the balcony with wild red eyes and a foaming mouth was me, and not Mr Hello Darling. I attribute this to the duty free Scotch and not to a case of rabies.

Australia has very strict quarantine laws.

I suppose the Feds figured it was cheaper to pay for my shots rather than pension me off and make me stay in Bali (on permanent holidays).  The Balinese are identifying their squirrels as rabies carriers.  I’ve never seen a Balinese squirrel hanging out with dogs or monkeys.  But I’m happy to not take the risks.

After all, I do need an excuse to justify to the wife why I’ve started hoarding all those WnW kits.  ;D

Must go, I have an urge to go and bite some more Koalas.

p.s.  For a deep bite, I’m also surprised (and pleased) that it hasn’t got infected.

Awwwh, please tell Uncle Steven to stop biting me, it hurts.
