Hello Rick,

Seeing your Nieuport again, I can only dream of such a finishing. Your paintwork is awful as are your decals and rigging. It's a very nice scheme with the Screaming Eagle. Wonderful build Rick, one to be VERY proud of. Congratulations!

Kind regards
Patrick

I'm sure you've all seen mine: the Revell offering in 1:72 with substantial improvements (I hope!) including Aeroclub prop, wheels and guns, major reworking of the cowling including opening up the front and the cooling openings and reprofiling the curves, and a scratchbuilt axle assembly, carb intake and venturi tube.
If I was going to do it again, I'd fill the panel lines on the nose and rescribe them a little thinner!

Special thanks to Rick for starting this thread with his excellent Nie. 28 and Ian for showing his 1/72nd masterpiece.  I always liked this airplane and must do more.  Here is my Roden 1/32nd in Quentin Roosevelts markings using the "Aeromaster" (I think) Decals.

And just for humor, my Aurora/Glencoe 1/48 Nie 28.  This pretty much got me back into WWI A/C modeling in about 2006.

Thanks Ernie:

If I remember correctly I painted it on, as the Glencoe Decals had a tendency to peel off once applied.  I plan on doing this in 1/32nd.

Hi Guys:

Just to clear things up a bit, the red and blue stripes on the Aurora/Glencoe kit were painted on, the Blue stripes on the Roden kit for Roosevelts a/c are decal included on the sheet.  Thanks for looking and all of your kind words.

Best

G'day.

I feel a little hesitant posting my (almost-see below) completed N.28 here.  Rick, Ian and Mark have done beautiful models.  And I'm always gobsmacked at how well Ian, and the other 1/72 builders, do their models.

Anyway, as with Ian's build, mine's of Rickenbacker's "12" (I believe this is Rick's favourite scheme :D ) and it's the Roden 1/32 kit.  I had a lot of fun with this, despite some self-induced problems.  But more importantly, getting this done has raised by confidence levels a great deal.  I'm no longer worried about rigging (I'll probably strip down my Pfalz and re-rig it, using the techniques I've learned) and actually enjoy it.

As you may have noticed, the windscreen is missing and so is the seat cushion.  I don't know where they've escaped to, about the only place I haven't looked is down the sewer pipes.  I can build a seat cushion again very quickly, but I'll need to find a drawing of the windscreen to build another.  Once that's done, I should find the missing items.....

I'm still experimenting with doing the slatted rigging, but I'll leave this model's rigging as is.  That's two completed, two in progress (SPAD 13 and Sopwith Tripe) and 26 more in the stash.

Great job on the 28.  I like the "wrapping" on the riggin, nicely done and to good effect.  I also like the scheme you chose.  I know it very popular, but for good reason.  This is one of Roden's better offerings and you did a great job on it.  Hopefully we will see more here as well.

Very nice collection of Nieuport 28's.  I will add an oldie but goodie, this is the Aurora /KB boxing from around 1972?  It is one of my first WW1 models built in the early 1990's, and my first attempt to add detail, I scratch built the interior, and added an Aeroclub Gnome engine and guns.  Decals were from the kit but the posters on the wings were added later from a Lone Star decal set. Shows how far the hobby has come in the last 20 years or so.

Nice work Mark, Dal, Patrick and Dave. More very nice 28's!
Dal, that slatted rigging is incredible!
Good to see that Lone Star got the posters correct (at least according to Datafile information) in that upper and lower wing posters were both full sized. The old Revell 1:72 kit has the lower wing one as half size, which was correct for Jimmy Meissner's machine.
