Hi Guys,
Just a small update-here is one of the four D.VII models I have just finished. These will appear in our next WNW modelling Special due later this year. More news when I have a definite date, ;D
Cheers,
Ray R.

That is such a cool photo Ray! I can't wait to see the other three, or to get the book! Great job. ;D
Regards,
Bob
-
That is a beautiful Fokker D.VII Ray, looking forward to seeing the other three.
Des.
-
Wow, I love that paint scheme. I look forward to photos of the
other three.
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
Great job, where the figure of a nurse ?
-
Thanks for the kind words Guys!
The figures in the photo-the pigeon and horse are Riich Models livestock volume 2;the nurse is one of the Modelkasten resin kits and the seated pilot is a Dave Allen production. All the figures featured in the new book will be from commercially available ranges and there will be links so that readers can quickly source them.
One of the other Fokkers is featured in Steve Robson's Gallery;the remaining two I will post shortly when I can get them in front of a camera again.
Cheers,
RayR.

That is such a lovely piece of work Ray; thank you for sharing it with us. I can't wait until the next special comes out.
Best wishes
Nigel

Fantastic work - not my scale but I cannot help but appreciate the amount of detail that can be put in at this scale. Great finish and the diorama sets the model off to its best.
-
Hi Guys,
Here is the early Fokker version finally finished- a Jasta 15 example with partly handmade markings. The pilot is by Doug Craner who did all the wood airscrews for the featured models. Photos and a colour profile of this particular aircraft support the build log for the Special.
Cheers,
RayR.
-
A pair of extraordinary Fokkers, Ray, and beautifully photographed. I look forward to seeing all 4 together.
Cheers,
Bud
-
Agree with all the above Ray - wonderful models and I love the diorama scheme on the first one.
Regards
Dave
-
Amazing pair of Fokkers.
Love that upper diorama and the paint scheme in that Fokker. Superb!
Cheers
-
Hello Guys,
Really appreciate your feedback on these-thanks! Here is the third-my take on Nickchen IV in post- capture markings with the engine and guns removed. I did exercise some artistic licence with this one! ;)
Cheers,
Ray R.
-
I like that weathering in the lower longeron very much.
There's nothing wrong with some artistic licence... you didn't "kill" it at all! ;D
Cheers
-
Hello Ray,
Very realistic fuselage weathering.
Cheers,
Vladimir
-
Hi Ray,
Beautiful Fokker's..
How did you get the slack fabric effect at the front of the fuselage?
Regards
Guy
-
Hello Guy,
Thanks for that. I just used a sharp pointed scalpel to gouge out the creases on both fuselage sides. It's a bid of a crude way of doing it but under the decals it looks OK.
Best wishes,
Ray
-
Blimey,
That was brave Ray!
Looks super effective though - I wish I'd done that now on my Nickchen IV..
Guy
-
Hi Guy,
Yes, it was a little concerning to hack away merrily on a Wingnut fuselage at first, but I did a few trial runs on some old spare kit parts from a 1-28 Revell Sopwith Camel that was lingering in the attic. I knew I would have a use for it someday!
You did a great job on your Nickchen by the way-lovely photos too. What I like about this Fokker is that there are so many ways you can model it with all the various changes noted in the archive pictures.
Cheers,
Ray
-
Yep,
I was going to do the captured version too - but then saw you'd already done it - I didn't want people comparing mine to yours!
You must have an organised production line there - 4 at a time!
Guy
-
Ray,
As always Ray very impressive works my old friend. love all three but the first really catches my eye. Love that Dragon! I'll got to ask though if you've resently watched Darling Lilly. When I saw the outstanding Nurse figure my first thought was of that movie. Keep up all your excellent works which are always greatly appreciated by all.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette
-
Stunning models, Ray! Great modelling skills. Thanks for
sharing.
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
Thanks for the tip on the wrinkled fabric, Ray! I'll have to try that on my Roden 1/48 SE5a.
Cheers,
Bud
-
Hi Guys,
Thanks. Darlin' Lili-yes I remember that one Guy, but didn't make the connection. At least the model nurse is mute... :)
The first Fokker model was done in isolation, but the other three were mainly a batch job. In the end it worked rather well, although I had to keep everything carefully boxed and marked to avoid mix-ups. Here's a photo ,but please ignore the stiff overscale synchro' cables-these were later replaced with much better ones!
Cheers,
Ray R.
-
That is quite an impressive production line you had there Ray.
Des.
-
That stack of fuselages is most impressive, some serious modelling happening here! I'm leaving mine in the boxes for a while longer, as I'm sure there will be lots more learned here as the Builds go on! ;)
Cheers,
Lance
-
Wow! That is impressive. I reckon I'll stop whining about my piddly dual Halberstadt build. :-[
Cheers,
Bud

Hi Guys,
Here is the fourth and final Fokker-and my personal favourite. It's a Jasta Boelcke D.VIIF, a photo of which appears in the WNW kit manual. We found more photos of this one and they will feature in the new Special. Naturally these only turned up the day after I finished the model, so all my home- made serials and badge decals had to be carefully knifed away and new ones applied! :( The 'lozenge' I used is from one of Aviattik's new sheets.
Cheers,
Ray
-
Great use of the Aviattic lozenge decals Ray, well done.
Des.
-
Hi Bruno,
Sorry about the typo :-[-at least we spelt Aviattic correctly in the new issue's reviews. Have to sack that spulchequer...
Cheers,
RayR.

She's gorgeous, Ray! The loz looks fantastic and that last photo is fantastic.

such a "romantic" view of WWI fighters! figures add a very emotional idea of free time after fighting!
-
This is all so impressive Ray and I just love the photo of the fuselage production line. I just cherish the day when after having received various bits of modelling advice from Des, I first logged on to this forum.
Best wishes
Nigel

All 4 look great, hope to see you in Telford !

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the input. I agree with Nigel. Having forums like these is an invaluable resource for us all. I have learnt a number of new things here and I have been in this game for over fifty years.
Appreciate the comments on the four Fokkers-actually I made five altogether-and here it is... ;)
Cheers,
Ray

Ah, the old Aeroskin version......
I also have one of those built and still packed away in a box somewhere....
-
Hi Aroth,
The thing that really sticks in the mind [or is it the nose ?]of those 1966 Renwal kits was the smell of the Testors' liquid cement. ::) I never forgot that sickly sweet by-product of those tissue covered models.
Cheers,
Ray

Yes!!! I have the exact same smell memory. I remember making pretty spectacular messes building these kits-- gooey plastic and sticky tissue everywhere... Fun times.
-
Hi Bo,
Yes,the sticky fingers! The Aeroskin was not a bad idea but badly executed in the plastics department. The first pre-WWI sets of early flying machines were much better. The mouldings were quite fine for the time but they missed a trick by moulding them all in black rather than wood brown. :( Buff coloured tissue would have been even better. I still have these models and they hold up quite well even today.
Cheers,

Hi Guys,
Just a brief update on the D.VII Special. It's now away to the typesetters and is due to be published Oct/ Nov this year. ;D
It will be larger than normal-in fact it's the same size as our very first D.VII Anthology-but mostly all in colour of course.
More later,
Cheers,
RayR.

So that's the Christmas present from the children sorted then! I'd best start leaving subtle hints here and there.
Best wishes

Great minds think very much alike, Nigel! With three in the stash (DVIIF to go) I'll need some extra help............

Hi Guys,
Expecting final stage proofs today so we hope to have the book here within a few weeks. If you are heading for Telford next month the plan is for Aviattic to have some copies available on their stand. :D We have other commitments that prevent our attendance this year.
Cheers,
Ray R.

Hi Guys,
Here's a little exclusive for this great website ;)

Think I'll get one too Ray. I need to really get it going
as a wee break from the fee. Awesome cover.
Cant wait to read it
Cheers Ray
Dave

I love that cover, Ray! Gorgeous!
Cheers,
Ernie :)

Hi Richard,
Jerry Boucher, who has done many covers for us, and others, did the photo-shopping and integrated my
photos of the completed models into his main background image.Other than the airscrews and smoke effects , the photos have not been tweaked further. The Spad is a Dragon kit I built in the 1990s suitably dusted off for the occasion...
Cheers,
RayR.

Hi Guys,
According to our printers the Fokker Special will be delivered here the second week in November. I will post firm details in the Albatros shop when it becomes officially available. Thanks for your patience.
Cheers,
Ray R.
-
Indeed, great cover, Ray.
Well, my resolution, that I dislike D.VII for its lack of rigging, ugly thick profile wings, general unwholesome look, gets weaker and weaker when I see such amazing models, a book, etc... I am not sure if I should say: thank you for sharing. You see, I was living in such a lovely D.VII-free world of mine... And now I am not sure... ;)
-
That's fantastic news Ray, it will be great to see the book available before Christmas, and the cover looks brilliant.
Des.
-
Hi Guys,
All being well the book will be available from the site over this coming weekend. ;D
Cheers,
Ray R.
-
Oh mate it`s going to be something. Unlike Przemol I love DVIIs one of the most beautiful designs of WWI in my opinion... ;)
-
Hello Ray:
Great news about the book and great looking models. I especially like the one with the nurse pigeon and horse. Interesting combination there. The model is pretty cool too. I like your captured scheme as well, great job on the use of oils. Your wrinkled fabric technique is pretty neat too. Simple but effective. I am looking forward to getting the book.
Best
Mark
