As we all know Johnsons have changed the formula for their Future/ Klear, I've heard on other forums that people were going to test it to see if it was as good as the old formula, but I've never heard what the results were, is it as good as the old formula or not, does anybody on the forum know?

I was told, about 18 months ago, that here in Australia it is marketed as Pledge. I purchased a bottle but had no luck at all using it, I followed everyones instructions for use but no matter what I did it just would no perform. I just wish that someone over here would import the proper stuff, if I had a contact I would import it myself and sell it through my website to all the Aussies who have had no end of trouble trying to get it.

The trouble is Des that here in the UK you can no longer get the old formula Klear, the new formula is now called Pledge Klear, now and again a bottle of the old formula comes up on ebay, but you now have to pay a kings ransom for it, the last I heard was that the new formula Klear went on the same as the old one but whether it was as good I've never heard anybody say.

I remember reading somewhere last year that a hobby shop was selling small bottles (I think 100ml) of the original Future formula, I can't for the life of me remember where the shop was or the contact details, but what I do remember is that it was very expensive, then there were the shipping charges. Maybe someone else can recall the details of where the shop is, or was.

My understanding is that while the name has changed, if you buy the bottle with this label, the formula is still the same. That might just be for the North American market though.

The big difference between our bottle of Pledge and yours is that our bottle does NOT have the Future logo on it.

OK so those like us that can get it by the bucket will send some out? Decant it into smaller containers so the shipping cost isnt nuts.Any takers?

Pete from what I've seen and heard the new UK formula Klear Pledge works in exactly the same way as the old. Phil Flory did a video review/test on his forum see http://www.florymodels.co.uk/on-test/ (http://www.florymodels.co.uk/on-test/) though you may need to be a member/pay the subscription to see it.
Phil tested old Klear, new Klear Pledge and two Alclad products and found no difference in the end result. I think the only question mark over new Klear Pledge is canopy dipping but then that is not really a worry with a WW1 aircraft etc.
If can't see the video and you need anymore info let me know and I'll watch the test and feed back notes.

Yes I prefer a soft wide flat brush as well, then a quick rinse in water, no problem.

Steve you'll find that Klear, being like water, settles very well.

I will take your word for it and give it a test on my GB Albatros. So I mess up a $7 kit.......but hopefully not...

Just make sure you don't overload the brush.
Dip, wick away the excess and then brush in even strokes. Brush it on and leave it alone. Don't go back over it until dry to the touch or you risk leaving brush marks.

Those are beautiful brushes Bob. I don't have anything that nice Paddy, but I find the dirt cheap Tamiya #5 Flat Brush does a really good job with Future too.

I've taken to using Hobbycrafts cheap brushes, not the really rough ones but for well under a tenner you can get some reasonable ones that last a while.
Not such a swearing session when you pick a brush up and realise you never cleaned it yesterday.

FWIW I had to remove the entire external paint job on my Pfalz this weekend due to a cack handed application of future with my new wide flat brush.
The gloss coating of the 2nd spray job was subsequently airbrushed. I then tried to brush future on the wings as they'll be lozenge and cocked that up too, but as it is lozenge it doesn't matter. I believe i've lost the ability to brush Future.

No you haven't lost the ability the ability to brush on future my friend. I suppect the problem may be applying too thick of a coat of future. Being self leveling any excess tends to pool usally on the trailing edge. Try light coats with plenty of drying time between the coats. Alway's works for me,I don't even remember the last time I sprayed future anymore.

I'm still working off an old bottle of Future for about 5 years now,so I can't help with th first part of your question. As to your second question I never thin my future. I've learned over the years that Future pools much too easily when thinned.

Pardon the pun but "back to the Future" is still a popular topic. I use the new Canadian Market product "Pledge with Future Shine' and by airbrush. ($5 at Walmart will get you enuff for a lifetime of modelling) Thinned with 1/3 Isopropyl Alcohol and 2-3 thin coats with min. 6 hours drying between. I do let it dry at least 48 hours before decalling. I recall spending literally days searching through all the on-line info before trying it after the original product was discontinued. The one and only problem it presented was when thinned with water, took forever to dry. Since changing to the Iso for thinning it's been a pleasure to use.
I believe there was a very informative article (list of product names for the different Country's) on Hyperscale or maybe Swanny's however that was some time back. If you search it on Aeroscale I'm sure there are numerous links in the various articles. Hope this helps.

Although I'm still using the "old formula" Klear, you don't need to thin it at all as it has the consistency of water and when I've finished brushing it on I just rinse my brush in plain water, job done.

I use 'Holloway House Quick Shine Floor Polish' which you can get from Lakeland Plastics. Found it works just as good as the old Klear did, including dipping clear plastic (ie canopies). Can be brushed, but I usually airbrush it straight from the bottle without needing to thin. Bit pricey, but bottle is 800ml, which I think is more than in Klear.

You needed to get Pledge "One Go" in the opaque white bottle with the blue cap. Although it's a yellowish colour, it works the same as Future for dipping canopies and wetting/sealing decals (but don't use Mr Mark Softener near any decals until it's completely dry- they'll wrinkle up badly and the One Go will dry in the wrinkles, setting them like stone :o). I've only found it at IGA, not Coles or Woolies. A little goes a long way, too.
It's also a dust magnet, so cover the model as soon as you've brushed it on.

Thanks for the tips on Pledge one go, Chris has sent me a bottle of future from Canada, with a bit of luck it will get through customs so if it does I will give that a go first.
I have visitors calling in all weekend so I won't be able to make it to Canberra this weekend, I would have liked to have been there. If you are going are you taking your camera, I would love to see some photos.

i seem to remember reading somewhere that this stuff was just as good as klear so when i was in home bargains the other day and and saw it for 99p i got myself a bottle.
not tried it yet so dont know if its any good or not, it does smell nice though :)
