Title: Hello from the land of Mossie
Post by: Mossie on April 11, 2013, 05:28:13 PM
Well, where do I begin?

I started modeling at the age of 7 and have continued to this day in one form of media or another, starting with plastic to now 3D and CAD.

I have a very wide reference library, not just WWI but through to WW2 as well. I cover not just aircraft but all aspects of the periods.

I own and run a small company doing CAD and 3D for a wide range of customers for scale models and full sized replicas.

I have done a lot of work on a variety of flight simulators, SODE-WW1, Targetware, Canvas Knights and T4T. As a result I have a huge 3D library of objects that have found their way into a range of other sims as well.

So if you have CAD or 3D needs then I'm sure I can help.

I don't have 3D Printing facilities yet, but have good connections to a few suppliers.

I'm working on a CAD model of the Fokker D.VIII wing and struts.

It will be in 1:32nd scale and have the plywood dimples and panel lines and nails. So an very interesting challenge.

It will match the latest information on the wing design and research.

Attached are a couple of images of the work so far. The green patches are the dimpled areas.

Hello Gerry:

Welcome to the Forum.  The DVIII wing looks promising.  I am sure there are many here who would be interested in something like that.

Take care

Mark

Apologies for missing you the first time around. Welcome to the forum, Gerry. What you're doing certainly counts as modelling. Why don't you go ahead and start a build thread?

I've set up a new Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/mossie3dcad/# so to better show off the work I'm doing, not all is WW1 aircraft related.

I'm also all set up for the two day visit to Telford. Looking forward to meeting my customers as well as any interested people. Might even pick up a few models as well. Could be an expensive weekend.
I'll be wandering around so stop me and chat.

Hi Gerry, I have built the Avis DVIII fuselage but kinda stopped when I got to the wing as I was unhappy with my efforts to improve it, so would be very much up for your product by the look of things.

However I had a bit of a job tracking the Avis kit down on eBay and I think its the only game in town in 1/32 apart from an ancient vacform so I would have thought the market for your wing would have been vanishingly small?
Unless of course you know of an upcoming reissue, or something else in the pipeline?
Whatever, I hope you proceed.
Cheers
Sandy

I'm not aware of anyone doing a full 1/32 D.VIII kit at the moment. The wing was started as a project, but it got shelved. I'll be speaking to the project initiator soon to see if he is thinking of restarting it. Who knows when WNW will do the D.VIII, even though they have two example to use as a basis from TVAL.

Hi Gerry, not sure if that means you are/were unaware of the Avis offering.
If you click on the logo at the top of the page, it will take you to Des`s main website where you will find his excellent build log of the Avis 1/32 Fokker D.VIII - which gives full info on this model.
I personally think the likelihood of this subject from WNW, while welcome, extremely unlikely.
