Post by: Flamingo on January 23, 2023, 11:04:36 PM
Converted from Revell Sopwith Triplane many years ago based on swedish drawings I got from a friend

Sweet!  I think I’ve seen a resin kit of this but I like your conversion better!

Nice work.

What a superb model - I cannot believe this started life as a Tripehound! Congratulations!

I feel very lucky to have seen Mikael Carlson fly his example and yours is a terrific representation (photographs by my father Dave Yates, January 2003):

Thank you very much for your kind comments!

After a longer search I found the old copies, the drawing was by Björn Karlström but differs from the one in his book.

I did not use Alb D.V and Han Cl.IIIa for the tailplane as recommended, but 20 thou styrene and the Tripe cowling not a Morane N.

It was fun to "translate" some of the Swedish words, somehow a mixture of English and German. :)

Thanks for sharing, she’s beautiful: quite a thorough conversion I’d say, it certainly looks all like a Tummelisa and nothing like a Triplane (except maybe the engine/cowling - which *should* look the same).
Flight magazine called it an orthodox plane with the only remarkable feature being the aileron design - that was in 1923, and time was going to add another quite remarkable feature: despite being the advanced trainer for the airforce for the better part of 15 years, it never had a fatal accident.

Lovely model, the finished article shows no trace of its Tripe ancestry. Super, clever modelling!

The best conversions involve the finished model bearing no resemblance to the donor kit. Yours does just that...superb conversion. Congratulations.

Stephen.
