Title: Eduard Sopwith Camel
Post by: Gisbod on December 31, 2022, 10:37:06 PM
Hello all,

Apologies for the long absence, I just haven’t made any WW1 models for ages. Still love them, but I tend to flit about and the Wingnuts demise hit me hard!

I have however just finished the new Eduard Camel. Fabulous kit, but the rib tapes too prominent to my eye (was the same on their SE5a). So much so, I sanded them down. I guess it’s personal preference.

I had all the extras for this kit, but ended up using the kit engine rather than the Brassin one - it just looked nicer painted, don’t know why. The Brassin seat is amazing. The whole cockpit looks super, shame it’s so hard to see once done. I used the Eduard ‘Look’ panel, I also had their ‘Space’ one but preferred the Look. Guns are resin (just realised I haven’t added them yet!! - doh), as are the bombs, but, again, I used the kit part for the rack. The resin one is just too delicate for my fat fingers!

Painted using Xtracolor PC10 and Linen - a first for me - lovely gloss finish.

Hope to get back to building more of this lovely scale, maybe the CSM Dolphin?

Anyway, happy new year to all!

Best wishes,

Guy

Yes, great job Guy.
I really like the nail holes in the wooden panels. I've seen this on Albatros aircraft but not on a camel.

Wow!! Back with a vengeance! Beautiful build. The cockpit is very impressive. Interesting you find some of the kit parts better. I find it strange that Eduard does "everything you need in the box" Profi kits then releases even more after market. Add the A/M to a Weekend kit and they cost more than a Profi!  You have created a master piece with everything you used.

Beautiful Camel Guy! I would have easily believed it to be WNW had you not said it was 1/48th. That being said I think your work has made it look better than Many larger scale builds! Happy New Year to you also!

Ah thanks,

Nice to hear from the old gang!

Yep, nothing I can claim credit for though. The mouldings really are 1/32 quality for sure.

Hi Steve, I know I agree. I think a lot of the Brassin is questionable whether it makes a difference - particularly on a good quality modern kit. I’d generally be happy just buying the ProfiPack and nothing else.. although the exception to the rule here would be the wicker seat, but you can hardly see it anyway!

Thanks Rick and Sandy!

Thanks Giuseppe,

And thanks Allan, it’s a Canon 80D, a light tent and Light Room on an iPad…

Hope that helps,

Guy

Very nice Camel!  I think your treatment of the rib tapes / stitching was well done. Beautiful interior work also.
Cheers,
Tim

Beautiful work Guy, I think you were right to reduce the rib tapes. They look just right to me. Fabulous paint job, it's a real gem.

Wonderful to see that you are back Guy. You certainly have not lost your touch when it comes to WW1 types. I too could easily believe that this was a much larger scale model as the details are simply superb, and the paint finish first class.

Do keep posting more - you are an inspiration.

Stephen.

Thanks Stephen and Brad,

I’ve got quite a few 1/48 & 1/72 WW1 kits in the stash, hopefully they’ll be making an appearance at some point!

Late to the party here.

Superb!

I've been tempted to purchase this kit to add to my already burgeoning collection of older tool Eduard Camels.  It's builds like this that are making my "buy it now" trigger finger itchy!

Cheers,

Hugh
