I just finished Guynemer's Nieuport 17 from the kit decals. It's out of the box with rigging added. I'm taking this to a local contest, so the 2 on the top wing is crooked and not following the trailing edge as it should. I figured if I put it on correctly the judges would interpret it as an alignment error. I should have just done it correctly. It was one of those late night decisions one regrets the next day.

Nice work! The N17 is such a beautiful aircraft too. I hope it goes well at the show. :)

Excellent Nieuport Stuart. May I ask what colors you used for the two tone cammo? I like the look of it.
Hope you have fun at the show and find lots of treasures at the vendors tables. I’m sure your entry will do well!

That turned out very nicely, Stuart. On your mention of the marking and contest Judges...could you clarify your reasoning on the contest form?
Cheers,
Gary

Very nicely done! I completed that kit about a year ago. One of Eduard's best kits

Superb model and finish. I would have followed Gary's route and put a note on the entry slip: most judges would accept your reasons. Best of luck with the show.
Stephen.

Yes, that was my regret. Modelers' Rule #352, don't overthink your references.

Tim,
It received 3rd in category. I was up against several WnW kits. Nothing on the vendors tables on topic worth of note. The colors are:
Brown - Methuen 6F5 - Vallejo Model Color 70.826
Green - Methuen 29E6 - VMC 70.967:70.824:70.991 ratio 4:1:1
Aluminum dope - VMC 70.997:70.864 ratio 2:3
I'm not sure on the Aluminum dope color, it was a WAG. I sprayed one mix, then later went back with a second mix and dappled it on, just to give it some variation.

Thank you all for the compliments and suggestions. I am trying to learn/apply more painting and weathering techniques to each of my subsequent builds. I did get a couple of really good technique tips at the contest. Additionally, if any of you have any recommendations on what I should try or how to make my models better, please do not hesitate to share. I don't have an 'artist's eye' as all of the rest of you, but I am attempting to learn. If you care not to post in the thread, please send me a pm. I am always looking for pointers.
