I've been looking at profiles of RFC planes in Eduard instructions. Some of these have PC10 under the fuselage, some of them have CDL. Is there knowledge about this?
Thanks,
Phil

Yes, but it's a wide subject. You'd need to enquire about a specific plane and then someone here would doubtless be able to help.

thanks, Sandy. Would that be a specific plane as in a specific serial number, or a specific type of plane? It appeared on first glance that they illustrate the camels with CDL and the SE5s with PC10, but I have found one exception where a Camel is PC10 under the fuselage.....

You'd need to enquire on a specific serial number, Phil, as different batches of the aircraft could be built by different contractors - e.g. Camels by Sopwith, Ruston and Proctor, Hoopers, Porthome, Boulton & Paul, Clayton & Shuttleworth, Nieuport & General, Beardmore, etc, etc who might each have their own interpretation of the painting spec. An individual airframe could then be rebuilt at an aircraft depot and could be recovered at a squadron repair facility.
Hence there could be substantial variation even for individual planes with consecutive serial numbers.
It's a bit of a minefield and you need to look for documentation on a specific aeroplane.
