Title: Caproni Ca.3. Meikraft 1/72
Post by: Tim Mixon on August 23, 2022, 09:24:56 AM

This was completed back in 2020. The text below was taken from the build log on Hyperscale. I have also included a link to the build.
I am calling this one completed!  Overall I’m very happy with the end result.  The Meikraft kit is a great starting point and the overall dimensions line up well against the Windsock data file plans. There are many nice features in this kit including the excellent photo etch guns and gun gondola.  Three decal options offer very attractive schemes as well.  Ca 2380 was unusual in that the Italian “roundel “ is painted on the tail booms. For this reason I assume that they were painted on the upper wing surface as well. I have no photographic evidence I just wanted to add them!  These are sourced from America’s Gryphon decals. The kit decals worked well despite their age.  I cannot begin to list the amount of scratch building I have done here.  The clear doped linen color is Poly Scale CDL (I was lucky to find a bulk eBay purchase of many Poly Scale WWI colors).  This is my first time using it and really like the color.  Rib tapes were masked and lightly overspray with Tamiya clear smoke.  Rigging is mainly EZ Line fine black elastic. Some stretched sprue was added in difficult areas.  I apologize for the poor quality photos. Some day I will find someone who can help me with taking better quality photo  work !  I am unsure what the two large metallic structures are on the under surface. I assume some kind of bomb mount but cannot reference them anywhere. If anyone has any information on Italian WWI bombs I would like to scratch build some to add to the kit

Superb model, Tim - and an excellent result from a difficult meikraft kit.
I think 1/72 is the right scale for these big bombers: I sold off my WNW Gothas, AEGs etc as they were just too huge to ever build for a domestic display case. I am hugely enthused by your terrific "giants".

That is gorgeous. I have one in my stash with wooden props and I'm looking forward to tackling it. If it looks half as good as this I'll be happy!

Phenomenal work again Tim; I remain in awe of people that can turn out such jewels from crude vacform kits. Brilliant.

Cheers,

Another jewel in God's Own Scale! A superb model in every way - I hope that you can get some information on Italian bombs so that you can add some to the model.

As my brother said to me when I was about 13 years old, stop it or you'll go blind.
Wonderful work in this classic scale. Very, very admirable job.

Cheers

Tim,

That is very impressive!  Quite the undertaking.  You don't give yourself enough credit.  The Caproni was only slightly better than the other Meikraft kits.
