Hello all – here’s another completion just off the bench (and hot on the heels of my other 1/48 Dr.1 build); a ‘What if” Fokker Dr.1 seaplane, based on the 1/48 Eduard Dr.1 kit.
This one was just for a bit of fun (so apologies to those who aren’t fans of ‘what if’ subjects).
I added floats, extended the cowl to fit a Oberursel Ur.III twin row rotary engine (from Small Stuff; this engine is a kit in itself), added a vertical stabiliser, added some cockpit details, and replaced the guns with some from Gaspatch. I also scratch built the beaching trolleys and trestles. The German naval lozenge is from Aviattic, and decals are from the Eduard kit and the spares box.
A build log of this one is here - https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=12812.0

Thanks to all here who encouraged me through this fun little build. This was an enjoyable little project, and looks rather unique in the display cabinet.
Thanks for looking!

Inspiring to the last detail... even the weeds growing between the wooden planks of the base.

Thank you again everyone!
Alexis - I would love to see a pfalz seaplane; I think that would look quite sleek :)

I do not like what-if's. But I do congratulate you, Brad, the concept and the execution are both top notch. Very, very fine!

Well, you have the floats... 8)

What would be better is if the Queen of the Pfalzs did a Pfalz D.iiia with floats and with the triplane conversion kit from Spin Models? (I think). I have one in the stash I could post out (probably the only way it will get used anyway).

I like your thinking, Alan!

Thanks Prez!
Agree Alan - that's a cool idea. If Alexis doesn't jump on that Pfalz triplane conversion, let me know ;)

I shared your first photo and a link to your threads over at What If Modelers (https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php) and the team there love it! I think one member is going to do their own version in 1/72...

A lovely build, just so well thought out out and executed... and has been said, beautifully displayed! Regards, Marc.

I’ve admired your work for years. Beautiful build you have here and very plausible scheme!

I will jump on that , still have quite the few kit's in the stash , even floats in the spare box , but it wouldn't be hard making a set of floats either . Make a nice winter project actually
