Hi all,
I'm very intrigued by this machine shared by our own PJ Fisher in On This Day thread (https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=12930.0):
New French Plane
(from the Sydney Mail, 28 June 1916):

Forgive my ignorance, all: what exactly is it? I don't recognise this machine.
I was wondering too. Maybe a Dorand variant? The articled may be exaggerating; 140mph seems pretty fast for 1916.
I've no earthly idea what this is! Any ideas?

You can't believe anything you read in the Sydney Press, it is a captured and repainted German LVG C.II.

A good thread to start would be 'spot the error in this' and post incorrect pictures or descriptions. I saw an article once about histories top 10 giant aircraft. Not surprisingly it mentioned the SSW R.VIII but had a picture of a Staaken.

This should be one of the downed LVG C. II by Jean Navarre. It was photographed excessively.

Thank you both for solving this mystery, I appreciate it.

Now there's a thread that would have legs! On another forum someone started a Box Art Errors thread that's alive and well 15+yr later!

A disappointing outcome, but an outcome nonetheless! ;D
