Title: Nieuport 11 & 16 Pilot Boarding Step
Post by: rfindley on June 30, 2022, 06:13:38 AM
Curious about the D-Shaped boarding step on the port side.   Was that open to the interior, or did it have a cover plate that hinged inwards when the pilot placed his foot in the step or did it have a canvas/leather "pocket"?  TIA

I don't know about the Nieuports, but the Handley Page V/1500's rear gunners position had access steps with spring loaded flaps.

If memory serves, it hinged inward. I could be wrong tho'.

I wondered this myself and decided after looking at photo's that it appeared to be cut into the fuz and open (ie without a spring loaded flap) so that's the way I'm making it on the current model.  :)
