Title: 1/72nd scale Eduard Nieuport 17
Post by: Mark Newton on June 18, 2022, 11:26:43 PM
I made a start this evening on an Eduard Nieuport 17 kit, boxed as a "Weekend Edition". As a shift worker the idea of a weekend is a bit of a mystery to me, but it'll be interesting to see how long it actually takes me to finish the thing. Here's where I'm up to so far. It'll be an OOB model, I just want to get back into practice, and I'm no longer interested in superdetailing inside cockpits where it can't be seen...

The last time I built a 1/72nd Nieuport it was the old Revell kit from many years ago. I'd forgotten just how small they were. And my eyesight hasn't gotten any better since then. But I'll persevere, 1/72nd has always been my favourite scale for model aircraft.

Cheers,

Mark.

Nice start on your Nieuport! I agree about the super detailing, especially in 1/72nd scale!

Off to a great start Mark, you can never have too many Nieuports. Eduard has done 2-3 different weekend editions, which markings is this one going to sport?

Thanks RAG and WD. The edition of the kit I have is this:

I'll most likely use these markings. But somewhere in the stash I have an old Blue Rider decal sheet for a White Russian Nieuport 17 flown in the Russian civil war. If I can find that I might be tempted to use those markings instead.

All the best,

Mark.

That is a lovely start, Mark! Some neat modelling and a great choice of colours... Model on! Regards, Marc.

One can't go wrong with a scheme from the Storks!

What Rick said! Although, I gotta say, I find the box art scheme quite attractive, and I'd love to do it IF I can master that chipping.
Looking forward to your progress sir.

I'm in two minds about that scheme. I may be an oddball, but I'm generally not a fan of elaborate personal/unit markings or colour schemes. I prefer to model the factory finish. I like to see the basic shape and form of an aircraft, and I think that often that's  obscured or overshadowed by bright and elaborate paint schemes. I'm probably an outlier? 🤔

Cheers,

Mark.

Nice start Mark

Yep they are small aren't they, but look so nice when built.
Watch out for those interplane struts (I managed to break them on one of mine and had to resort to remaking from brass)

Personally I love the Stork scheme, but hey each to their own as you say  ;D

Nice start.
You're not alone when it comes to avoiding the fancy colorful markings.  I, too, prefer the plain schemes.

Who doesn’t love a Nieuport?  Great choice. The Edward kit is really nice and you have made a nice start. I have several marking options for Russian Nieuports. If there is anything in specific you need I’ll be happy to look for it.

Mark,

Love it.  I've been working on the dual combo.
