Title: Airco DH2, Eduard 1/48
Post by: Bughunter on May 16, 2022, 07:10:14 PM
I always wanted to have this pusher in my collection, so after two month of hard work here it is!

Airco DH-2

This is the DH2 serial 6000 of the A flight 24 Sqn in July 1916. The Pilot was Sidney Edward Cowan who was born in Downpatrick (Ireland). He died after a midair collision November 17th, 1916 in the age of 19.

This model was built from an Eduard Profipack in scale 1/48. Other additions are a Small Stuff rotary engine and Gaspatch Lewis MG and rigging accessories. As usual in my builds some parts a replaced by new ones made from real wood (e.g. air screw) and metal (e.g. the tail booms and fuel filler caps).

The paint job was done with Mr.Paint (especially the PC8 main color), Alclad, Gunze and Drooling Bulldog. The light weathering was done with oil paints.

For more information about the creation of this model and a lot of macro shots please visit the detailed build report:

At first some outdoor pictures. It was not easy, even in evening light, so get some good pictures.

Frank, you have built another stunner. What is not to like about it? Your build thread shows perfectly how much clever work you put into it. And this gallery is a fine completion to that. Congratulations!

In the outdoor pics she looks like she's ready to fly away at any moment.

What a beautifully detailed gem Frank!

Thanks for taking us along in your build and for posting all the clever and ingenious solutions.

Willem

p.s. I really like the wheels  ;)

+1 on that!

I've learned a few things that I will put to use and I've seen a lot more things that are amazing, but that I never will try my self.  :)

Congratulations on a magnificent model, Frank. The detail, finish, subtle weathering and exceptional rigging combine to a degree of realism we all strive to attain and so rarely reach. Beautiful work, and a real testament to your skills!
Cheers,
Lance

So often it is more pleasant seeing her naked then dressed up. But in this case both is equally amazing  :)

Frank a wonderful model, a pity you do not work on the 1/32 scale.

Everyone's said it all, Frank - she's achingly beautiful. I want to prime the cylinders and get her started for a dawn (or dusk!) patrol. What a beauty. I think my own Weekend Edition kit will jump the queue - this has been such a fascinating and inspirational build.

Magnificent!

Now I am curious how you like the model!

It is magnificent!  I have never seen anything quite like it.  How you can manage to create something so beautiful in just 2 months is a mystery to me.

Thank you very much to each and every one of you! Your wonderful comments are highly appreciated!

In the outdoor pics she looks like she's ready to fly away at any moment.
:o Hopefully not! I put it into my glass cabinet to be sure.

Superb, you always delight us with scaled real planes.
Giuseppe, I try to reached my signature, but this is not always successful. This time I seems to had luck.

a pity you do not work on the 1/32 scale.
That would mean I would miss those wonderful Eduard models, and the 1/32 needs to much space.

I especially like the outdoor shots.
This time it was not easy. I used the evening light, but as we have nearly summer the sun produced very hard shadows and high contrasts. The parts in the shadow are nearly invisible. The light tent works better in this regard.

How you can manage to create something so beautiful in just 2 months is a mystery to me.
I have to admit that I spend a lot of time on model making!

Thanks again,
Frank

Late to the party Frank, but a real aeroplane produced by your hands is certainly not something to be missed. Another winner in every way to go alongside your equally inspiring strip-down version. Wunderbar!!

Beutiful model, as always. This Eduard kit  is especially "not easy" to build, but,  it seems, for you it  was like a walk in a park. Cheers!!!

Thank you, my friends, for such fabulous feedback!

This Eduard kit  is especially "not easy" to build, but,  it seems, for you it  was like a walk in a park.
:D
I think it was worth replacing the struts and tail booms with more robust solutions - that made it a "walk in the park" later on. 8)

Frank
