Comment:
Eduard’s 1/48 new tool Sopwith Camel has given WW1 modellers a breath of fresh air in the 1/48 scale market.
While the kit engineering OOB is world class, Eduard have excelled themselves by producing a comprehensive assortment of aftermarket accessories to make their Camel a world beater.
We have received a selection of Camel accessories and they are quite astonishing with a degree of fine detail never previously imagined or possible in this scale.
The history of the Camel is well known and Eduard’s latest 1/48 incarnation of the aircraft has been reviewed here and on other forums so is now well established in modellers’ minds.
Perhaps less known are the aftermarket accessories Eduard has produced to complement its Camel and they represent the cutting edge of the hobby technology these days- fine detail resin, brass and 3D print items to inject an astonishing level of fine detail into quite small parts.
Although these items are designed for the 2021 new tool Camel they could well also be used to dress up their earlier 2003 Camel release. However this is my assumption- not a claim made by Eduard.
Inevitably Eduard want to maximise their new tooling for the Sopwith Camel so these items will be applicable to most of the new Camel versions on release.
This list is by no means complete- we have looked at an assortment of the many aftermarket items produced for the Eduard Camel. For a detailed look at every available accessory, log on to the Eduard website at https://www.eduard.com/ and use the search function there.

So, what aftermarket gems have landed on the review bench? Let’s consider them.

Item #: 648659 – Brassin Sopwith Camel seat $US 5.95

This is one of those ‘jaw on the floor’ items whose fine detail is almost beyond belief in this scale.

It’s a 3D printed item and astonishingly delicate and finely detailed. Photos do not do it justice. The item comes in a robust cardboard package and includes steel seatbelts and full instructions.
Eduard are pioneering the use of 3D printed accessory items and the technology lends itself to the WW1 subjects. As well as the Camel, the seat can be used in various other British WW1 types.

#FE1215 – Eduard Zoom Sopwith Camel seatbelts $US 4.95

A nicely rendered colour set to dress the Camel cockpit, these metal seatbelts also feature among the PE enhancements of the Profipack editions of the kit. A very useful accessory.

# 648658 – Brassin Sopwith Camel wheels Type 2 $US 7.95

Two types of Camel wheels are represented in these resin items, again distinguished by super fine detail. These include decals for the Palmer Cord wording on the tyres. It’s worth noting the detail in the kit supplied parts is excellent too. This illustration shows the Camel kit wheels in dark gray above the resin replacements.

# 648660 – Brassin Vickers Mk. 1 gun $US 5.95
# 648661 – Brassin US Colt Vickers gun $US 5.95

Eduard have produced ultra-fine detail Vickers guns to replace the kit parts. Options include the US Colt or British Vickers pattern.
Each set comprises two guns, including a PE fret for gun sights, charging handles and so on.

The kit guns:

# 648674 – Rotherham air pumps $US 7.95

Impossibly tiny, delicate and frankly quite difficult to work with, these little air pumps are quite visible on the Camel and Eduard’s enhancement set offers a 3D print and PE element plus detailed instructions. Best for tiny, nimble fingers!

# 3DL 48038 – Sopwith Camel Space parts set (seat belts, instrument decals ) $US 12.95

Eduard continue with their pioneering technology with this cleverly designed set comprising 3D instrument decals and PE seat belts to dress the cockpit. As with all of the accessory items the set features clear instructions to match them to kit parts.
This is a really useful set and beautifully detailed.

#644116 -Look – resin pre-painted instrument panel, steel seat belts 12.95

Eduard’s technology just gets better and this Look set proves the point- a finely detailed colour resin instrument panel with pre-prepared instruments insert and full instructions. As with other sets the PE seat belts fret is also part of this really useful set.

Summary:
Eduard’s state of the art new tool Sopwith Camel defines quality and the range of aftermarket accessories to complement it further enhances the kits and reconfirms that Eduard’s new Camel is easily the best 1/48th Camel kit on the market.
Verdict:
Our Highest Recommendation.

Simply stunning stuff, bravo Eduard's design team for such exquisite pieces! Is there a boxing of the kit that includes all of these extras?
