Title: Queen of the Pfalz
Post by: Alexis on April 26, 2022, 02:44:01 PM
This was started a very long time ago and ending being a shelf queen . It is my first attempt of scratching details in this scale . Turned out to be frustrating and end up back in the box .

Time to get her done finally , This is where I left off . Using the Part PE set for this kit plus many , many details added .

The Pfalz D.III is, to me, the queen of the WW1 fighters. Such an elegant design. I'm so excited to see you back on this!

Great choice, A. I've got a few of these in the stash but haven't started one yet. I'll be interested to see your progress.
One question: does your kit have damaged wingtips (aileron tips)?
The wingtips are moulded sticking out at the end of the sprue and as the sprues move around in the box, these have been bashed on all three of the kits I've got. Not a huge problem but a little thought with the sprue design could have protected these very thin tips.
Still a nice kit though.

Such an elegant design.
Not only an elegant plane! There are also a huge amount of nice paint schemes of the D.III and D.IIIa :)
I need also to add a D.III to my collection!

Let's see how yours will look like!

Cheers,
Frank

Good work, Alexis -

I assume the framing is part of your added scratch built details?

Regards

Dave

Thanks guys ! There is still some detailing to add to the pit and engine , I'm about half way through this stage now . I made the mistake on holding off on some which will be hard to fit now .

Sandy , yes . Tips are damaged on my as well and will be a challenge repairing this do to it's thinness , but I have had this happen with other manufactures as well in the past and on new kits such as Eduards Mustang . You are correct though it is a nice kit and Roden did do a nice job on the details .

Dave , yes part of the frame is my handy work  ;)

Wonderfully detailed interior Alexis. That has the makings of another first class model.

I am not sure how you can be working on several subjects at the same time - shades of Rick there!

Stephen.

This is too beautiful a model to be shelved  Alexis.

I'm sure that when you have finished  her, she'll look as pretty as all your models  :)

Hey thanks guys , I'm back on this now that the work bench is cleared and I have the room to spread out the parts .

Not much more for the cockpit for the details , a few plumbing pips and the seat belts and the guns and the halves can be joined for good . Will have some pic's posted soon of some progress , in the mean time still need to find a livery for her to wear

This is looking great, Alexis! One wouldn't know the frustration that you dealt with detailing this just by looking at it, well done! Looking forward to following your progress.

If I had to single out one WWI fighter as my “favorite “ it would be the D-IIIa.  You have taken great care in detailing the interior. It looks really nice.  Glad to see this is officially off the shelf of doom!

Haven't been avoiding this one progress is being made at a snail's pace ( thank god no slimy trail left behind ) Clean up of the parts finished and ready for pins and details . Before I finish off the seat belts wasn't happy with the PE cushion and have started making a new one out of card sandwich together giving me a basic shape of sanding , detailing it is next or at least try and make it look like a cushion , a well used cushion  ;D

Good to see your making progress.  Have you decided on the aircraft you wish to depict?

Hiya Alexis, I just spent a year with absolutely no modelling time at all. It was challenging to say the least! Life has a way of getting the way sometimes, look forward to seeing more on this when you're ready.
